He sounds happy but I think his heart still beats true 😢

"Part of Hunt’s signature style West Coast fans might be familiar with has been the Demons-coloured headband he has worn in games, but the new Eagle is still deciding whether he will continue that tradition with a blue and gold accessory out west.  “I don’t know about that. It might be a good opportunity to go back to a normal, conservative black one,” Hunt said with a laugh.  “I don’t know yet. I’ve got to think about it.”

So that cancels out your argument as 'tidied up over the last two years' then.

If you want to go back to 2019, when he played 21 games, he averaged 2.7 turnovers per game. Over the last 2 years he's also averaged 2.7 turnovers per game. Not exactly a tidy up.

If he is getting twice as many disposals it is.  So is he ? Don't hide any facts please LN

2019 - 12 disposals per game

2021/2022   - 11.85 disposals per game

No facts hidden.

The narrative of Hunt having poor disposal and decision making is overblown on Demonland. Over the past 2 years he has tidied up in both areas.

It's difficult to comment on some of the above descriptions of Hunt's shortcomings onfield. Some he had (and ameliorated well) but I fully agree with you, mo64, as it has been my observation that Hunt sharpened up these skills and worked hard, implementing such improvements to good effect for us - 2022 had been a good season for him - and he had a role to play as a consequence. What player does not muff a couple across a game or within a season; because he was playing in the backline, these errors appear far worse than perhaps they were. I'd have kept him, starting his season on the wing to exploit his pace and his growing maturity as a player with upside.

  I don't really get it?

It’s just something I came across online. It’s most definitely doctored. I think it has a message though, something along the lines of despite what you read/hear, even straight from the horse’s mouth, you never can be sure how someone truly feels about something. Of course, I could be barking up the wrong tree right there, but that’s the way I see it.

Good bloke Hunty. Will always be welcome back home.
Really stiff to get injured late last year.
it is a brutal game.
I hope WC play at the ‘G next season

Jayden will be remembered

He certainly does sound happy, can’t argue that.

I’m surprised he’s not keen to embrace the blue and gold headband, considering instead to ‘go back to a normal, conservative black one’. Can’t read too much into these things though. He says he’s happy so I guess he must be.

Poor bastar*. He’s sent to the other side of the country to earn a buck (or 400,000 of them), and has to feign interest in their vile fan base. We know you’re there under sufferance Jayden. You’ll always be a Dee to me❤️💙❤️

Thanks LN

Surprised Jayden didn't get a greater no of disposals in 2021/22 than in2019 considering he played forward mostly in 19 and as a defender albeit lockdown the last 2 years ie 46 games.

However  that  backs up the consistent ratio of disposals 12 snd 11.85 and  2.7 clangers also in both. Thought his role in defence was his most consistent over his career also for the team.

I think he read the situation (probably explained to him at his exit 2022 interview ) snd has opted for an AFL career to be extended and risk not playing in a Flag winning team at the Dees.

Hope he has many good days on Optus Stadium which suits him but just not against us !!

I thought he played some of his best footy as a lockdown defender, but at the same time it's a role where he probably doesn't get to capitalise on his greatest asset - his speed. So mixed feelings about it I guess.

He seems one of the best blokes around, he's battled bad luck with injuries and always seemed positive, and I don't remember a single game where he didn't give AFL level effort. I'll always consider him part of our premiership team.

Not sure how much team success he'll have at WC, but could see him adding to the highlight reel while there.

Agree LN as long as he is happy which he seems from the WC video!

Sorry he's going.  Speedsters are rarely so tough and brave.  Thought he was alright.

Nothing much to be gained here.

We lose one of our rare players with pace.

We lose a player who is in the top 5 accurate set shots for goal at the club (we all know how much our forwards aside from Fristch let us down through out the year in the accuracy department)

We lose 120 odd games of experience which affects our depth.

We gain a mediocre draft pick which we might not even use.

Wish him well though.

They certainly are! In general, Poles LOVE Aussies. They think we’re exotic. Let’s let them believe it. 😁

I left a heap of Dees stuff there a couple of years ago - tea towels, beanies, scarves, posters etc. - for my son’s father-in-law who’s sports-mad and who’d given me similar but for Legia Warszawa, his soccer team. He gave some of the Dees stuff to kids in a tiny village and apparently they are now Demons fans, albeit without choice.
WCW promoting Aussie Rules in Poland. You’re welcome, Gil! Couldn’t be any more of a fail than the China thing, right? 🙃

Yes, I find this definitely the case, Poles do love Aussies. They come across or perceived as cold but are very hospitable people and if you use some basic Polish there they really appreciate the effort, they understand it's a notoriously hard language to speak!

That is awesome! I love hearing obscure stories like this. I'd imagine not many would even have heard of Aussie rules football in Poland and seeing some locals is Dees apparel is amazing haha.

I took a football with me in 2014 to Poland and was kicking it around with my cousins on an overgrown, run down soccer pitch in a village 100kms east of Kraków to the onlookers of locals. They seemed very bewildered and intrigued by the ball 🤣

Haha. Gil said he's busy tidying up a few lose ends before he leaves his position, but he's sending us our cheques in the mail for our promotional works 😂😉

As traumatic 💔as it was to lose him I'm really happy he has settled in at WCE.  Back to what he does best and has taken on a mentoring role.

Did anybody else do a double-take when they saw that Essendon picked up a player called Jaiden Hunter in the mid-season rookie draft this week?

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.
