CASEY: Grand Final vs Southport

Is Howes actually playing?

I really hope turner, chandler and JVR get lots of AFL games next year.

Turner, JVR and woey id like to see more of next year in the 1s

Preseason games and even round 1 I’d love to try Turner, May and lever down back. Petty and JVR up forward. Woey in Vineys spot and rotate off half forward.
Rather give it a crack preseason and round 1 then get to the last few rounds and we’re too scared to try anything else even though something might not be working anyway

Wonder if these maggots have any idea how many young players career's they are ruining by deliberately giving young players the wrong impression of what is fair and what is not.

Bit of a sad situation I reckon.

What on earth. Not a great umpired game but miles off what you’ve suggested

Pretty decent game by VFL standards. Will be interesting to see if Southport went out too hard.

Wouldn't mind Weed moving on for other opportunities and we can open up a spot. I know he has a year to run but surely someone would take him.

He's just so out of sync going for his marks. Can't seem to time a jump, can't one-grab or out-body smaller  opponents even at this level.

Need more out of Weid. 6 possessions 1 mark, put down several he should have taken as usual.

He's rucked very well but still drops marks when he's the only one who gets a clear grab at it.

Weid has been great in a day where it is pissing down rain in a position he doesn't play, against an opponent with 40kgs on him

I really like Chandlers game. He is exactly what we need in the HF next year. Love his chase, pace and work ethic. Not the best decision maker - granted - but we need to play him more to rest others throughout the season.

Agree.

Is more balanced.

But too slow to pressure effectively or burn off an opponent the way Toby does.

Chandler is and always has been a midfielder with forward craft more than a forward. He’s an excellent link player through the middle of the ground.

He’s yet to master clean hands around a contest though to really push his case as a high half forward

Weed needs Russell Roberston's old man to teach him how to mark.

I remember Robbo saying he taught him how to mark and it was quite an odd method. But it worked and I'd try anything

I know I won't be popular for saying this, but Oskar Baker needs to be traded or delisted for 2023..

16 hit outs against a man mountain.

Weed simply can'y mark the ball in a contest.

Why is Bowey not playing?  (I missed the start)

Ineligible. Too much afl, not enough VFL

Because Melbourne are out of the finals. He could only play while we were still in it.

Just needs 4 more years on the list to come good

It's not his ruckwork that's the problem.

Chandler is just far too good to waste his time at this level. Surely has every right to go elsewhere if we can’t promise him a regular senior game.

Disagree.

Sure straight-line running he can't burn an opponent in the way Toby does but he has him covered in about every other facet of the game. And his pressure is fantastic. You watching the game? It's a GF. See that tackle then? lol

And clean hands? You've lost the plot, he's on another level to the rest in the wet.

He has been emergency almost all year, Goodwin made minimal changes all year.

His form was seemingly irrelevant this year in Goodwin's eyes.

Jimmy Munro kicks the first of the third term and Casey are up by 13!

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
