Only if they merged with GCS.

Pokie money keeps them going

Aspley (suburb of Brisbane) was also supposed to join but couldn't afford it. Why are they in the VFL...why not..it's a weird competition

Ironic that the Demons moved away from pokies revenue   and yet like in NSW, many sporting clubs are funded and boosted by pokies $$$. Southport Sharks have a lot of cash to spend on players and it’s how they can compete at this level. They’ve dominated for many years in the QLD league and in the previous NEAFL.

Sorry, I keep my eyes firmly focussed on the Casey team and ignore most of the other VFL results, so who the hell are the Southport Sharks? My quick research suggests they aren't aligned to anyone. Would they be the next team to come in from QLD otherwise why do they even play in a Victorian league.

As a QLDer, perhaps a more pertinent point is why did the AFL choose to continue to call it the VFL when there were 6-8 teams from outside Victoria. This year down to five I believe with the likes of Aspley/Canberra dropping out.

But the VFL top 5 this year was 4 teams from outside Victoria, including 3 from the footy heartland of Queensland (sarcasm).

And yes, Southport are the biggest club in QLD with no alignment to any AFL club. They have a massive leagues club which means they're able to offer good money to ex-AFL players who'd rather spend their winters on the sunny Gold Coast.

Moved forward just in case things might go over and we miss 5 minutes of , WAGs on a rotisserie at the Brownlow .

When does the Brownlow start?? Surely the Casey GF going til 4:45 doesn’t influence it

I'm not sure $ can be spent on players. There are very modest caps in place?

Thought the same.

Non aligned clubs were around mid $200k someone mentioned

The coverage well after that but who knows? That was the reason given

How cool for our Casey boys and our youngsters to play in the finals and Granny it will stand them in good stead for those that get the opportunity to represent the Dees in the future, TMac also sounded pretty chuffed to be playing in another Granny. Good luck and enjoy your big day boys. Go Casey Demons.❤️💙👍💕

Maybe they want to make sure Clarrie is not in a rush to get in the building?

Let’s hope that Mark is elevated next year to Goody’s senior team he has earned his stripes and I love the way his team plays selfless footy.

Mitch White and Luke Dunstan have been selected in the VFL Team of the Year. Dunstan is the ruck rover while White has been named on the bench.

How did Chandler miss out?

Luke Dunstan in 5th place after 13 rounds of voting in the JJ Liston Trophy voting.

Not much chance of winning because he’s 7 votes behind and Casey still have a couple of byes and that final round defeat coming up.

can't wait to get the tram down to Prinny Park for this game.  old school footy

How come Casey get only 2 players in the VFL team of the year, one of whom (Mitch White) is on the bench? No Chandler or JVR? Moniz-Wakefield?

Gameplan perhaps but are AFL players eligible ?

My thoughts exactly. When a team is the minor premier and have only lost one game all season, while it’s not a given, it’s usually the case that they’d have more than just two players in the team of the year. 🤔

I know $20 is not a great amount these days but charging anything for this game is a bit over the top.

Perhaps they want to limit the numbers attending and thus reduce stadium costs

Crowd under 5k is my guess

Im looking forward to a Red and Blue GF Sunday. Casey Demons in the VFL @1pm followed by by the Norwood Redlegs in the SANFL 3pm.

Tickets can also be bought at the gate on the day.

Don’t forget… it’s $15 for pensioners/concession (as opposed to $20 for adults) and kids under 15yo get in for free.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

  • PREGAME: Brisbane

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
