If we win against Sydney in the first week of the finals (most likely match) and Carlton win’s tomorrow, we will most likely be playing Freo or Brisbane at the MCG in a preliminary final. This is an ideal outcome. Winning that first final is ever so important. Edited August 20, 2022 by Glorious Day 4 1 Quote

As for crowd I'm always surprised at how many sth melb fans come out of the woodwork. But if we play like last night it's all semantics I reckon we will smash anyone and walk into a prelim then a gf on our hallowed mcg. It's not just the back to back aspect...it's winning at the Mcg that's important. Last years gf in Perth doesn't take anything away from the shine of the cup but it would be nice for supporters to go and watch. Finals are upon us and I even remembered this year to cancel kayo in time so Mr Murdoch can't buy any more ivory toothpicks. I'm no iconoclast...nothing wrong with making a quid but 25 billion of them seems a tad greedy. But that's just me and my conscience talking. Sorry bout that murdoch fans. I do like kayo and it's even fairly priced but once again I digress. Yes dees v swans in our first final. How exciting. Edited August 20, 2022 by leave it to deever 1 Quote

I've got a feeling the Blues will roll the Pies tmrw. Should be a good game. Sydney won't go above us. Saints will put up enough resistance. And of course the cats to go out of the finals in straight sets. Poor Mr Scott. They will really turn on him then. So sad😃 Edited August 20, 2022 by leave it to deever Quote

Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 One has to wonder about Geelong's obsession with resting players especially this late in the season when they have a fortnight off. The polar opposite of our approach to build physical resilience and keep players on the ground. I wouldn't be surprised if they will be underdone in the finals with all the resting and the easy run they have had for the last few months. More so if they win their first final and go through to a PF with barely a physical or scoreboard challenge for three months. 3 Quote
Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 And what is it with Scott's obsession with late changes when the change is to manage a player, this time Menengola. If they were going to manage him surely they would have known on Thursday night as Scott has often said they plan their player management a long time in advance. Maybe they are just trying to hide an injury... Either way it isn't in the spirit of integrity of team selection. 1 Quote

Not sure how much it plays a part in their first week failures but it can't help. I feel like I reference Binman in every second footy conversation I have lately even off DL but he made such a good point with regards to soft tissue injuries. How many of these have we actually had this season? Look at Geelong and Collingwood, soft tissue city at the moment. There's no surefire way around avoiding soft tissue injuries and rest isn't necessariy the answer, especially when there's a pre finals bye. Edited August 20, 2022 by layzie Quote

Bimbo 943 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 West Coast in passing 44 points has ensured that our defence has has the least total points scored against them this year. This is important as the premiers last year were in the same position after the end of the home and away season. 2 1 Quote

ANG13 2,110 Posted August 20, 2022 Posted August 20, 2022 It’s bad enough watching Geelong smashing a bottom team but to have Anthony Hudson calling it makes it even worse. He’s a good caller most of the time but not on Geelong games. Quote
