Well, you might consider moving Petty forward.

Heavens forbid, the two Adelaide teams realise they should be offering Petty 5 years on big money as opposed to Isaac Rankine and we lose him.

May & Lever are getting older and could be better managed.

I’m not convinced that Tomlinson is very good back up.

And finally, if he succeeds at CHB, his trade value would be greater if that's what ends up happening.

Petty's contracted until 2025

Don’t disagree but when you have May, Petty & Lever as A grade key defenders and Tomlinson as a very good backup , it’s hard to see why or how we would try the Weid as a CHB.

Add to that list Turner. Putting Weid at CHB may enhance his chances of getting a gig at another club, but he won't get into our senior team playing that role.

The comparison to Liam Jones and Paddy McCartin isn't warranted. Jones was always a good contested mark, but was wasteful with his kicking. Paddy McCartin never had the chance to prove himself as a forward due to his concussion issues. Weid has had plenty of chances. People need to stop making excuses for him.

So looking forward to seeing JVR in the MFC team on 2023 - seems an excitement machine who can mark, kick, run, ruck.  But having been an advocate for his promotion for a few months, I don't believe now is the time.

Also looking froward to Turner, Howes and Laurie  in particular.

I feel really bad for Tomlinson, who was rock solid before his ACL and very serviceable when he came in a back up for May and Lever - too good for VFL but no room for him in our defence.  He has been a winger: has he ever been used as a forward tall?

I don't even know where to start with this, so much to unpack!

u r right - that's unreadable

is it produced by McGuire Media possibly?!!!

That is the scoreline from Werribee vs Northern Bullants. Not sure how they have confused that with Brisbane vs Casey

It felt like I was on it reading that layz. Terrible on so many levels, they used the word referee too 🤣

Was thinking the same thing but for most the promotion bus passed by around 3-4 weeks ago.

I'd be really disappointed if the players playing VFL right now have checked out of the season when the AFL finals are about to start.

An injury or suspension could happen out of nowhere and open up a spot.

I'm not sure I can get around moving Petty to the forward line just so that we can get Weideman into the backline.

The May-Lever-Petty combination is up there with the Gawn-Oliver-Petracca-Viney combination for why we're as good as we are right now.

And we don't just have Tomlinson as back up but Joel Smith too.

Not sure what you mean when you say May and Lever "could be managed better"?

Alternative world report.

Seriously though you have to question the quality control of the news organisation.

Wrongful reporting at any level is unacceptable

Pakistan and India went to war over cricket..

Since when do you run your Club looking over your back shoulder worrying about your opponents in another State.

Melbourne is big enough and strong enough NOW to be positioning itself well within the higher Vic Clubs and to be fair although both SA Clubs have plenty of supporters and home grown faux strength both don't put the fear of God into any Top4 worth's their salt.

Whst management skills would you place on May (30 years with 2/3 seasons left) and Jakie Lever (  26. Yes 26 and far from finished has another 100/150 plus top games ahead if fitness permits.). Pray tell GW?

Agree

Also Chandler and Bedford will look back on that VFL bye followed by presumably covid the next week and wonder...what if.

Wonder if Salem will play VFL next week (hopefully good weather)

Why would you risk him ? Meaningless .I would have thought.

He IMO played well vs Carlton and was back to his disposal best. Risking injury is too great a threat for any small reward to play him in a practice game which is what next weeks game is all about.

STREAK’S END by KC from Casey

Winning streaks are meant to be broken and just like their big brothers in Melbourne earlier in the year, the Casey Demons saw their run of victories come to an end after exactly 17 straight games at the weekend.

Making their first visit to Brisbane’s Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, the Demons found the Queensland warmth a touch harsh after a cold hard winter and struggled for goals and for air after half time to lose a high quality VFL match by 14 points - 10.11.71 to 8.9.57.

There were no excuses for Casey as it fielded a strong team with 16 AFL listed players but from even before the start, the omens were not good.

The Demons lost the Melbourne/Casey partnership’s lucky charm in Jake Bowey on the eve of the match when he was called up to replace Christian Salem for the AFL Demons’ Friday night clash at the Gabba and while his presence there was noted, the loss of the pocket sized #17 was significant for Casey. There’s that number 17 again!

From the very start, the Demons struggled to get their usual rhythm going on the ball. Their two dynamic running smalls in Toby Bedford and Kade Chandler who hadn’t played for three weeks after the bye and missing last week’s game against Carlton, looked rusty and were playing well below their previous levels. Neither found their touch around the ground and between them, they only contributed a single goal. Luke Dunstan was also less productive in the middle and the team missed the hard tackling in and under work of Jimmy Munro. Oskar Baker with 23 disposals was the best of the Casey smaller brigade.

Without their usual midfield ascendency, the pressure was well and truly on the forwards and, with a singular exception, they struggled to trouble the scorers.

That exception came in the form of exciting youngster Jacob Van Rooyen who played a lone hand role up forward with his marking and around the ground exuberance to contribute four goals. Had his enthusiasm only rubbed off on his fellow forwards, we would surely have been celebrating another victory instead of mourning the team’s first loss of the season. The enigma of JVR is that the Melbourne selectors have, perhaps wisely, determined to hold him back for a 2023 AFL debut.

Whilst not at their absolute best, the defence led by Adam Tomlinson, Daniel Turner and Corey Ellison went about their duties in a workmanlike manner and the older heads in skipper Mitch White and Matthew Buntine tried their best to steady the ship.

There was another exceptional display for the Demons from James Jordon who was a trifle unlucky to be omitted from their AFL side at this stage of the season. He responded with a superb display on the wing - with a team-high 27 possessions and eight tackles. His hand remains held high for a return to the fray at the higher level.

A qualifying final against the Sydney Swans Reserves awaits the Casey Demons who will be happy to return to their home fortress for that encounter.

Well girls and boys the " News" story is still up. I am not surprised in their error as it is a site that is controlled from Sydney. Usually features way more NRL than AFL. I doubt the writer even knows what the VFL is.

The joy of news gathering from a distant source. And we wonder why Trump got elected!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
