Tonight is a really difficult one, as it was played so much in two halves and I am sure there will be a wide spread, but here goes.

How many to advantage? We still lost clearances by 7. Why is it that we get more clearances when we lose hit outs, or Max isnโ€™t rucking? Clearly there is a disconnect between Max and mids.

Canโ€™t believe Gawn getting so many votes. I felt English beat him around the ground and kicked 2 on him.

I gave Gawn 1. Soundly beaten by English but 25 possessions, 8 marks, 5 clearances. It was more towards a game from the Max we know.ย

I also don't feel anyone else deserved it.

Picket??? Are u serious?? He was very very ordinary tonight and that crucial SET SHOT miss from 35 was unforgivable!

Hardest set of votes I've had to give in a long time.ย

We really missed Langdonโ€™s dominance last night, Hibbo was good even when out on his feet, Weid went alright, the umps punished Jack at every opportunity and he gave them a few. We had no one who could go with Ugle- Hagen. That last 4 minutes cost us again.!!!

You want to watch how many time we got our hands on the hit out first and blew it. Also the number of time Gawn tried something different, big punch clear or grated it himself. He was close to our best last night.ย

I was at the ground and Gawn was easily our best player.ย  English played a good game and you know, it happens.ย  Not that many years ago Gawn and Goldstein played on each other and got the 3 and the 2 in the Brownlow.ย  Gawn played a great game last night.ย  15 hit outs to advantage is an extraordinary figure.ย  8 marks, 25 disposals and was still trying his heart out right o the end.ย  English kicked 2 goals - the first when he was gassed and just sat back and waited for it to come over the top - May or Petty should've been on him at that stage.ย  The second was just a good goal.ย  Our mids bumbled and fumbled all night; Nibbler blind turning into tackles; Viney trying to break tackles and Petracca in and out when it suited.ย  Oliver gets a pass on the fumbles because he was playing with one hand and as usual busted a gut.

6 Gawn

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

Iโ€™ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we wonโ€™t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything youโ€™d like to ask or say below and weโ€™ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics youโ€™d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
