When we took Grundy, we took him coming off a 12 month injury and there was speculation that he may never get right and Pies needed to get him off their books. Not suggesting we take a future 1st but it’s going to be more than what we paid for him given he is now fit, proved capable and is in good form and at 650K is a bargain. 

It seemed odd that Schache was given another contract. Doesnt seem so odd now . FFS.

Cant believe  Grundy is going  already. He's just got here ! 

We need JVR up forward not flopping about around the ground.

Tmac is almost done. What happens when Gawn gets injured????

Gawn  could get monstered next Thursday and we'll need Grundy to take over in the ruck especially if were playing week after.

Port players must be ecstatic about how their team is totally inadequate before Finals have even started.

So they then decided to send two kids and the Coach to meet an Elite Ruckman from another side.

Sounds like amateur hour to me.

He’s not playing AFL and he is on $650k, if he was in good form he would be playing.

He’s not leaving next Monday FFS.

Gawn gets injured in QF, Grundy will play SF but Oct rolls around and he will move on, and we will move onto another back up ruck, hopefully one that can also play forward.

True but Grundy was injured last year so was no hope of playing. A little different.

Grundy going to one of our main competitors say either Port or Sydney over the next few years will result in a fair loss of IP. Of course Collingwood has rolled that same dice with us this year.

I think future first with pick 34 going back the other way would be about right. They will back themselves in to improve next year with him in the team and if they end up in the top 4 next year they would come out in front in terms of trade points but we would snare another first round pick.

Depends on how he plays - if he is playing first ruck which is the most likely way he plays - something unthinkable has happened to Gawn that may end his career. 

Then, yes, we will keep him…

Hard for me to see anything but an additional year for him.

We are still in a good position to try and develop a young ruckman. But time is running out.

Grundy was a good back up plan, but he is not willing to remain under Max's shadow.

i see no reason why max can't be like sandilands and play til he's in his late 30s

he's still the best ruckman in the competition and has been for six years because if his incredible athletic and aerobic capacity - as long as he maintains that, he's not getting less skilled at his craft

My main concern is if he sustains one more knee injury (touch wood).

At his age it could be hard to come back from that.

I respectfully disagree.

We will do the right thing by Brodie Grundy. But we will also do what BENEFITS the Melbourne Football Club.

I reiterate that Brodie Grundy has signed a 4 year deal with us.

We have all the power. Don't forget that.

This means if Port Adelaide wish to obtain a trade for Brodie Grundy they need to come up with an attractive offer that is beneficial for both parties.

Otherwise, we simply say NO to Port Adelaide. We have all the bargaining power.

Why are people surmising that Max may sustain an injury in his latter playing days, but Grundy won't? Grundy turns 30 next year, so I can never understand why people think he's an ideal successor when Max retires.

I am not inferring Grundy is the be all end all.

Just more of general thought on the way the club will transition in the post Max Gawn era, unfortunately the skipper is not eternal.

I agree, but his ideal successor would be someone in the 23 - 25 age bracket who may be happy to develop at Casey, or shows ability up forward.

This is going to be a challenging trade in the off season. Port only have picks #37 and #43 which will go out with bids etc and are also trying to lure Ratugolea and Zerk-Thatcher. We will also not want to put Paul Connors offside, but we need to make sure a fair price is paid.
