Why do we need to replace JVR with a tall? Smith and McDonald are the talls, get smith to play on Weitering and Petracca spends 50% forward. Jordan replaces Brayshaw, and spargo comes in.. god knows we need his ball use

We need a second ruck. TMac is useless (IMO) as a second ruck. Smith has never rucked to my knowledge.

Grundy's stats not all that bad. Same number of goals as Max (10).

Spargo to ruck?

Fair point.. hadn’t thought about the ruck. Can smith go in there and effectively play as an extra midfielder?

No. Also, he isn’t a midfielder.

Just spitballing solutions at this point.. Grundy just isn’t the answer, and putting Disco forward is just panicking

I wouldn't be using a finals game to find out if Joel Smith has any knowledge of ruck play!

We're yet to decide if he's best as a forward or back.

Grundy plays as a ruck rover, not unlike an older version of Luke Jackson. I reckon he'd be champing at the bit to play against the Pies on the big stage. He'd wipe Pittonet and De Konning and Oscar (if we go to Brisbane).

He had 45 hitouts in his one game v the Lions.

Play Grundy in the ruck as he’s great as an extra mid when the ball hits the deck ala Luke Jackson. Let him and Max share the ground. He has to come in, there’s no one else

I would be ok with pick 21.

Saw that on TV as well.

Let's possibly entertain this idea.

The problem for Port Adelaide is what do they have to offer? They have no draft picks worth offering. What players could they even offer?

Brodie Grundy has a 4 year contract with the Demons.

We would be asking for Josh Sinn, Miles Bergman, Ollie Lord or someone of decent quality and talent.

I just hope that the Demons drive a very hard bargain.....IF....a trade does possibly happen (which I hope it doesn't).

Dees should demand Josh Sinn in return and pick swaps.  If they are serious about desperately wanting Grundy, they should be prepared to deal.

Straight swap for Dyl Stephens?

Our sizeable share of his contract off our books?

I for one hope like hell Grundy comes in, just don't make Max change his game, Grundy does what Jackson used to do and you know what, he's a quality footballer too and can still move well enough and he should be in there.  Makes sense, second ruck, can still kind of play like a big mid fielder, c'mon stop the haters Grundy is great he's just had a bunch of crappy games but did we lose those games because of the ruck?  Or because we just played a bit [censored] and couldn't kick goals hmmm?

We are going to need Brodie Grundy this week against the Blues.

Fingers crossed we can finally make the duo ruck combination work! 🤞

Grundy should come in and share ruck duties.
Gawn was immense in the ruck. But now he has to sacrifice for the team to get the most out of someone else possibly at the (hopefully minor) expense of his own game.

Can he do it? From his rhetoric, he will ask Goodwin for Grundy to play - I just hope he knows that what that means for him.

Those that want the Grundy Experiment to continue into next year - this is it, and it is on Max to make it work.

I think we need to stop framing it as a "ruck combo", Grundy is just a decent player and I want him on the team.

About time someone started making sense around here. The solution lies in plain sight. And if sonething did click, it could be the catalyst that we so absolutely need at this moment.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
