Farewell Brodie Grundy

Ouch!

Gotta give him some credit, a few years ago he wouldn't have been able to pronounce the name Brodie Grundy.

I'm just sick of the media hacks saying things like "out of favour" and "sure to seek a trade" like they'd know anything.  Stick to your own lane, Lloyd, you know jack [censored] about a club you know nothing about, and all you're trying to do is keep up with fellow media hacks in trying to be relevant.

If Grundy doesn't come "back into the team in coming weeks", he'll seek a trade.  No [censored] Sherlock!  But that's not going to happen because he will be back in the team.

What I don't get is the talk from the media that MFC will have to pay Grundy's contract if he decides to move. On what planet do these morons live? IF Grundy were to request a trade, it is he who would want to break the contract, giving him no right to demand a contract payout. I do NOT think MFC actually want him off their books. He is a great backup to Gawn and will play games next year and beyond. The nonsense around Grundy is just another example of the media hatred for the MFC. It's all negative press for the Dees, as usual. Get stuffed media!

On top of Grundy playing forward for Casey, it was pleasing to see young Jefferson crash a few packs and do some nice things on the weekend.

Add a bit more muscle and bigger tank over summer and he's right in the mix for games in 2024

Keep it up young man - you and JVR are the future of our forward line!

Our forward line has worked best over longer periods when we have played 3 talls ... that means the 3rd defender picks up our resting rucks and we get goals out of Grundy the same way Jacko did. So Tomlinson stays put, and we bring in Petty as a forward and consider whether we swap Grundy/Schache for Brown this week or next week

If he leaves mfc make a net draft profit and we don't pay anyone extra cash. Media have lost it. Makes interesting story to suggest he will be paid by 3 clubs at once because it would be a first is all

Glad to see so many people waking up to how puerile the Media have become, and by the way i do not buy that they are only doing their job, because it isn't.

Let's study some teams who would feel as though their chances of a well earned flag could be in jeopardy.

Although without mentioning names we beat them both, and coincidentally they both have heavily bias media connections..

Grundy and Oliver have big roles to play in how we finish this year and they know it...

That's the point people in the media are blindly ignoring.  If (and it's a big if) Grundy wants a trade, Melbourne would have to agree to it, and I don't see that happening.

Grundy is the perfect back up player for Gawn if or when he's injured. Why on earth would we trade a first class back up ruckman? Gawn will need his rests and Grundy will help out.

He's only been at the club for 5 minutes but already the media have him one foot out the door.

The greasy media hates us and loves to try and trip us up.

The media just want clicks.  Good stories about us are mainly read by MFC supporters only.  Bad stories are read by a fraction of all other club's supporters, especially big rival clubs and at times when we are a threat.  They do the numbers and work out where the most clicks are.

The Front Bar is now the only ‘footy show’ that I watch other than the actual games that are shown on tv. (Stating the obvious, to be entertained not informed)

Football shows have somehow morphed into being ‘tabloid tv’ if that makes sense. Can’t see this changing anytime soon.

Somewhat desperately perhaps, Demonland threads and podcasts is my  ‘go to’ for footy information nowadays.

I don’t know why some get so incensed at the media; they only, by and large, have a shallow look at all teams.

Here we have a ruckman playing VFL on $650k, learning enough forward craft to play in a deep finals run after a career famously struggling to play forward rules and take contested marks.

Neither is there nuance readily apparent that has been mentioned by many on here.

So until the narrative changes - and it may be this Sunday - this is where it is.

Your last paragraph also hillites that these Gawny and podcasts are all a threat to their potency, and informed information.

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol
