Darcy Cameron listed at 204 and looks more like an inch than a cm taller. Either that or Grundy is appears shorter because he’s usually bear hugging opponents grundy probably appears shorter than most oponent ruckmen because he's all torso and trunk and no legs, thats why his mobility and follow up work is better than most ruckmen, low centre of gravity and closer to ground 1 Quote
rpfc 29,019 Posted July 30, 2022 Posted July 30, 2022 The main problem with Grundy is that he is not very capable as a forward. He would push Gawn to FF perhaps 2 years too early. On the flip side, maybe it does keep Gawn playing longer… 5 Quote

Gawndy the Great 9,011 Posted July 31, 2022 Posted July 31, 2022 Why not go after Sean Darcy from Freo? He grew up in Victoria... i'd be getting into his hear to remind him of what he's missing out in Victoria. He will be in Geelong's crosshairs in a few years time (played for Geelong Falcons) so lets get on it now when we have the opportunity. Is it a straight swap? If not who has to cough extra trade capital? 1 Quote

Plus the fact Grundy wouldn't be great as a resting forward, so it means he has to ruck pretty much the whole game or sit on the bench. We could play him behind the ball I guess, but I don't see it. Tony Tea 2,816 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 I'd have Kelly or Whitfield. They are both superb kicks and would complement our inside game with outside run. 1 Quote
Demons1858 1,820 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Grundy (28 yrs old) would be perfect to maximise our window as premiership contenders while we develop / recruit a junior ruck to be ready in 4/5 years time ... I feel Max's body will pack it in (with little notice) at some point given the issues he has had with his knees and then what do we do without a capable plan B? If Grundy is mostly in the ruck, next years forward line could be: Max, plus two of BB/Tom Mac or JVR (as the 3rd tall only where he can fly across the pack with potentially an undersized opponent and not have to do the grunt work). The JVR move might even happen this season when BB returns as a 3rd tall option to replace 'Melk' as the hybrid tall. Quote
Demons1858 1,820 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 (edited) We know we should look for a key forward with years of footy ahead of them in the trade period as a priority ... other than McStay does anyone know of one that is available? Correct, there isn't one and we may not be able to afford one. So how do we get a forward line that can improve our changes of winning a flag next season whether Jacko leaves or not? I would wait for Josh Kennedy to retire (as he has announced he will do) entice him to the Dees on a reduced salary in the hope of getting a free kick at a flag. No significant draft picks would be needed. He is originally from Melbourne. He is still kicking 2 goals a game and I'm sure at MFC he would benefit from better inside 50 numbers and delivery. What's to lose? Kennedy vs some pick in the late 70's to round out out list? Do we really want to rely on the form of Weid? Edited August 1, 2022 by Demons1858 Quote

The more times goes on, the more I feel like Kelly and Whitfield are highly paid irrelevant stat padders. Good players no doubt, but what individual accolades have they achieved that would make one of them worthy of being involved in an LJ trade, that would make us think we have 5+ years of their best ahead of them? They've both been AA once, 5 years ago. No thanks tbh. I know Logue is the other half of your trade, but I just don't feel like any one of them are difference makers. DeeSpencer 26,667 Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Targets: - McStay - don’t want to debate this again but he’s a good afl player and off to Coll - Gunston - Logue - probably a defender, could be a value buy and swing man with Petty - Lobb Worth a look: Grundy Meek E. Himmelberg - has the size and athleticism, has threatened to become an afl player James Stewart - awful injury run, has skills but probably a defender these days Caleb Marchbank - defender and a huge gamble but you never know Wade Derksen - just a great name Emerson Jeka Could get a train on run: Frampton - back up ruck Oscar Mc - the return! Aaron Francis Chris Burgess - probably a good state leaguer Schache - 3rd time lucky? 2 Quote
