Curtin going to #4 is probably going to really test WC's resolve. They probably don't swap without having at least 2 top 10 picks and late 1st rounder / early 2nd rounder (current or next year). They will push hard for Sydney's Pick 5 for Barass so that they can secure both Reid and Curtain, but Sydney would be derelict in their duties to go for Barrass (who is 27-28) with Pick 5. I think they just Himmelberg as a FA an use Pick 5 to bring in some youth.

Looking through the current club draft picks, I think there are about 6 clubs really in that area where they can package picks up below 6 in exchange for 6: Adelaide, Essendon, GWS, Melbourne, St Kilda & Western Bulldogs. Add North Melbourne to that assuming they get late 1st round / early 2nd round free agent compensation for Ben Mackay. I reckon the Bulldogs are well-placed. They could do 12 & 16 (2,335 points) for 6 & 44 (2,113). Anyway, there's a lot of footy to be played which will affect ladder positions (and accordingly draft order).

There's every chance they (WC) downgrade picks to get more talent in anyways (priority in getting Curtain) - which makes total sense for them but nuffies will see it and think he's a mummy's boy who was too scared to cross the country.

Agree - as much as I'd love to get the GC pick, surely other clubs will be better placed to offer them a deal.

Yeah I tend to agree, although we are well placed in this draft there will probably be other clubs with more to offer for the Suns pick. That doesn’t mean we can’t get a slice of the pie though- we could still get involved. We could trade with GWS for pick 10 therefore improving their chances of getting a deal done with the Suns. Dogs pick 12 could also interest us. 
Long way to go and ladder position will change before EOS. 

@Pennant St Dee, I asked you earlier in this thread mate, whether there's any chance Curtin could get through to our pick (say West Coast go with Reid) and if he did, would we take Curtin. What are your thoughts currently? Please and thank you. 🙏

I would love to get him, he’s the best defender in the country, but is being played in other positions due to recruiters requests on seeing him utilised elsewhere. His size is a huge factor from midfield upside perspective and his reading of the ball in flight make him a potential midfield/forward match up nightmare moving forward.

Hes a level headed kid, who has poise in traffic and is developing his contested game in the middle. Further to this he leaves no stone unturned in his preparation.

Closest I can compare him to with his skill set, size and flexibility is Matthew Pavlich.

West Coast are very keen on him though

Look, we're as well placed as any. I'd say Western Bulldogs, then us, GWS....    We actually currently have the 2nd most draft points of any club (4,503) behind only West Coast (5,304). But there's so many other factors like trading future picks which is not really in our favour as we're one of the top clubs. Having said that, GC don't need future picks, they need points this year (but other clubs could trade future picks for current picks and then on-trade to GC). Also the unknowns like compensation picks for free agency moves, possible North Melbourne special assistance (although hopefully that would impact the 2024 rather than 2023 draft), ....

This is what brings so much uncertainty. With our current crop of good 2nd rounders, the points value is juicy. i reckon we have enough to get it done, but we cannot stop something silly like another club going in 1000 points over pick value just to get #6.

I wouldn’t think it’s West Coast as it finished the trade value for pick 1.

Yep, they want him, but also Reid, not sure how they can get both

No way Ben McKay is worth a first round draft pick (let alone pick 3). Frawley was a much better player than Ben could ever dream of being.

This is shaping up to be the most compromised draft since GC/GWS were brought into the competition.

Its turning into a FARCE.

If North get pick 3 compensation or assistance its around a possible 6 out of the top 20 either Nothern Academy, FS or Priority/compensation.

There are some really good prospects in the top 10. We need to trade up for a second top to pick (likely GC's).
