Collingwood V GWS is a big game today in respect of Collingwood’s finals chances.

Does anyone see them as a premiership contender or a mid range side in the middle of a winning streak?

All I know is that we’ll need to play a lot better, for longer, against them in round 21. They’ve well and truly had the wood over us since round 23 2017.

Coached well, but not GF contenders, will be surprised if they make PF

Carlton winning only proves to me that Freo ain't that good, we were 5 goals up against them and we know the circumstances around why we coughed that lead up.

Freo forward line is piddle and posed no problems to Carlton.

Look forward to playing them in R 22 and beyond.

I’m seriously impressed with Carlton and Geelong at the moment.

If we unfortunately miss the GF, I can see  these two playing it off.

The only thing worse than a Geelong V Carlton GF would be a Geelong V Essendon one. Either of those teams winning would be tragic.  I’d have to leave the country for a bit

King massively overrates this sort of thing - 2-3 is about right.

These are two good sides. Geelong are a better side this year with Stengle and De Konig.

To defend King he never said he will get 5-6 weeks, he said he 'should' get 5-6 weeks if the AFL are serious about providing an effective deterrent for these kind of actions.  I think he is as cynical as the rest of us plebs when it comes to the consistency of the tribunal.

Michael Long only got a four-match ban for his disgraceful hit on Troy Simmonds in the Grand Final, which was lenient at the time.

Stewart’s bump wasn’t quite as bad but not far off, and yet 22 years later with all we now know about the impact concussion has on long-term health it is disgraceful that these kind of bumps are getting anything less than 6 weeks minimum.

The thing that annoys me is that the bump probably decides the game. A key mid is out for the game replaced by a ruck. Stewart gets 29 touches and the Cats win

AFL. Need to consider a red card type rule for off the ball hits like this. It’s simply unfair

Scott says it wasn't deliberate.  I don't think he intended to hurt but the action looked deliberate to me:

  • they were a long way from the ball.
  • Stewart at no time looked at or veered toward the ball.
  • Made a beeline for Prestia.
  • Didn't break stride
  • Elected to bump (there wasn't even an option to tackle as they were so far from the ball and Prestia hadn't had possession)

At a human level it was sickening to see Prestia's body so contorted when he tried to move and his face so dazed.

And to rub salt in the wounds he was able to serve 3 of them in the 2001 Ansett Cup.

100% agree with this, there’s been a lot of resistance to this sort of action but at the end of the day it’s not the victim’s team on the night that gets the benefits of a player being out a player, it’s the infringing team that gets the benefits by taking that player out of the game.

I’d be very comfortable with a system of a green, yellow, and red card.

Green sends the player off for 5 “in play” minutes, yellow is 10, and red is out of the game. I could also see a system where the umpire is able to send the player off but there is someone reviewing the decision to decide if it’s too harsh or not harsh enough or even missed completely. That way if the umpires misses something the player can still be put out of the game for a period.

I know it’s a movement that makes it look more like soccer and hockey, but it’s completely wrong that Geelong got to benefit from a dangerous and really thuggish act.

While those two combinations are bad there probably not leave the country bad for me but if ever there is an Essendon v Carlton grand final that will be my calling in life to go on an overseas holiday preferably somewhere without the internet.

Had the umpires stopped play for the 3 minutes it needn't have decided the game.  Geelong got a goal in that time while Tigers were a person down.

It is a big surprise that the '4th' umpire didn't talk to those on the ground through the headphones to stop the game.  Not just for fairness but it was dangerous as play was going on around Prestia and the medicos.

Someone must have told the umpires to smarten up as when Baker was hit head high later in the game they stopped play.

Even last week it took over a minute for play to stop when Wil Powell was injured. Not sure what umps look at.

Agree the game should have been stopped but the Tigers we’re still down a key midfield rotation for three quarters and the Stewart continued to dominate

It used to be that as soon as you brought a stretcher on the field play stopped immediately,  then the AFL made an edict that the player had to get onto the stretcher to stop clubs 'gaming' the system.

I think in this case given the hit and it was clear Prestia was going to have a concussion test, Richmond should have called for the stretcher straight away.

I’ve never really known AFL teams or players to game this, in fact if anything players resist getting onto the stretcher when they should to seem more macho. Total contrast to soccer, particularly European and international games, where they blatantly and disgracefully use it to slow momentum and waste time. I will never forget an Aussie match against Iraq where they used the stretcher what felt like every 5 minutes. The ref did nothing. Really glad AFL isn’t like that.

To borrow from Petula Clark Downtown was always one of my favourite songs of the era, here is the Demonland version

When you're alone and life is making you lonely
You can always go
To DEMONLAND
When you've got worries all the noise and the hurry
Seems to help I know
at Demonland
Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city
Linger on the sidewalk where the neon signs are pretty
How can you lose?
The light's so much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go Demonland
Things will be great when you're
at Demonland
No finer place for sure
Demonland
Everything's waiting for you (at downtown, demonland)
Don't hang around and let your problems surround you
There are replays to show
at Demonland
Maybe you know some little places to go to
Where they never close
Demonland
Just listen to the rhythm of a gentle bossa nova
You'll be dancing with 'em too before the night is over
Happy again
The light's so much brighter there
You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares
So go demonland
Where all the lights are bright

Waiting for you tonight

You're gonna be alright now (downtown)

I’m not getting carried away with this result. Freo have been up for a while, as were we. I do hope the Giants can roll the Pies though, another team that’s been riding high of late.

I never knew Freo won a premiership and went on a 17 game winning streak?

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
