It’s not Noble. Well not entirely. The team has no culture and is devoid of leadership. They lack effort and intensity. The first thing any replacement coach would want to do is clean up the list again.

If Noble does go, I hope Yze doesn’t put his hat in the ring there. The Norf situation is only territory for successful coaches who know how to rebuild an entire club. Only coach I know that has the creds is Clarko.

They need a real Coach who has a CV and respect, otherwise they are dead.

Norf need pick 1 again.

They need to get smashed to avoid conceding the spoon to an undeserving Eagles.

Pain before gain.

Neither Nought or Meth Coke deserves Pick 1. Nought got rid of excellent players when there was no need. It was their own doing.
Meth Coke are tanking. They still have a lot of talent.

Horne-Francis absolutely goneski for a late forearm across the face of a GWS player after a kick. Has to be weeks surely.

He's quite the sniper.

Swinging round arm fist to chin, eyes on Kelly not the ball, and the kick had well and truly been completed. No chance he was doing anything but trying to hit Kelly

True about the tanking. Agree with that.

I'd rather norf get the pick. I guess it's that simple.

Someone has to get it. I agree there. But i get angry at Nought for completely wasting our time

They stripped there list way to sharply without any experienced replacements.
It will be a horror show for any Number 1 draft pick to go there. Kids will want to drop down the order to avoid Arden Street

I honestly have no idea if Noble can coach, but no doubt he was handed a lemon. The Brad Scott regime flogged their ancient list within an inch of its life and left absolutely nothing coming through for the next generation (must be a Scott Bro thing, hopefully this is Geelong’s future), then they had two years under a coach who collapsed under the pressure.

I love a bit of footy Schadenfreude (see above Geelong comment) but the North situation is past funny now. The league suffers when there are too many woefully uncompetitive teams, and despite having absolutely no love for North, I don’t want to see them go down the gurgler.

Do you reckon he wants a few weeks off from playing in that team?

“The league suffers when there are too many woefully uncompetitive teams “ yet Gillon in his infinite wisdom wants to add yet another.
No consideration of further diluting the talent pool, a more unfair schedule with rolling byes. Just another licence fee.  He will be the death of the competition.

Irrelevant who gets pick one vs pick 2-4

history shows pick one is no advantage over picks 2-4 or greater. Look at Carlton

It would be more accurate to call it the 'Ben Buckley Buggered' (BBB) regime Nasher. As I understand it, the facts are these:

  • Scott told BBB when he arrived as Chair in 2017 that the list needed a significant overhaul and that Norf would need to drop down the ladder as older players were gradually moved on and new top 10 picks could come in.
  • Scott wanted to trade out The Big Goldie as a first round pick was on the table from another club. At that stage it looked like the Big Braydon Preuss could take over the number one ruck role. Apparently Goldie was open to it.
  • Scott told BBB and Carl Delena he'd squeezed as much out of the lemon as possible.

Norf's response was as follows:

  • No way we can fall down the ladder and restock,
  • The list isn't that bad,
  • Goldie's not going anywhere,
  • Rye's recons he can delivery preliminary finals.

BBB left the club looking like a war zone. And to think he was once considered a potential candidate to become CEO of the AFL.

Thanks QB. Sounds like I had the right scenario but the wrong culprit. Absolute negligence in any case.

Not sure if you are advocating sticking with Noble or not.

I think they should go for Simpson with everything this year - the backwards momentum this year has been Neeldesque horrendous.

North were never a strong enough club to bottom out. They have a small supporter base and low membership numbers. They also don’t have big cash flow like say West Coast, Essendon or Carlton.
I think they feared that a prolonged period at the bottom will see them collapse, so they kept striving for middle of the table mediocrity, which in the long term only made everything worse.

They are a nothing club. They don’t have the supporter base (Richmond, Essendon, Carlton) the history (Melbourne, Geelong) or the affluence (high profile supporters/ president) for anyone to care about where they are as a club. Essendon has gotten more attention being bottom 4 this year after making finals last year, than North has being a basket case for 4 seasons now.

Surely the AFL won’t penalise North’s only player.

Glen Archer played a big role in their downfall.  He micro managed the list cull, football department overhaul including the signing of Shaw and Noble, hiring/firing assistant coaches.  Buckley gave Archer free reign to be a defacto CEO/Football Manager.

Now they have lost their whole recruiting, list management group.  It will be a long road out of the wilderness.

It isn't a club for a newbie coach.  They need Peter Jackson and today's Roos equivalent; a 3 year senior coach who has the standing and gravitas to wear the media blowtorch while a coach-in-waiting settles in, builds the list and a decent game plan put in place.  In other words the Demon blueprint with different actors.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
