Interesting the Dees had a great defence in 1956...only 354 points kicked against in the first 7 Rounds with a percentage of 153.4.

Had the no. 33 on my back, before GH retired and I switched to no. 2 (obviously). Great player. Didn’t see many wins back then though!

I remember that game. I think it was my first trip to VFL Park.
the Demons kicked 2-3 late junk goals.
it was one of those bad days we all remember

We had a pretty good list in ‘72, should have done better.

Elliot, Carl, Alan Davis all played for us. Grambeau?

Yeah, Shane Grambeau, son of Mick who played for North in the ‘50s. I just looked up Mick’s page on Wikipedia. Interesting read. After a loss by North in 1955, both he and Laurie Icke were sacked for apparently not trying. Following a big public furore they were reinstated, but had to sign statements that the club was right in sacking them! Amateur Hour.

Coincidentally the sons of both Mick and Laurie ended their playing days at Melbourne, Steven Icke adding a Bluey to his 1977 premiership medal.

I recognise quite a few people in that shot. My very good friend Jason is front and centre about to start a chant and next to him holding a flogger is Hayden Burbank. The Flag Inn sponsorship would make it 1987?

The same Hayden Burbank who went to jail after sneaking into WA for the Grand Final, I presume?

Jeez we had a lot of talent in 1975, and yet we finished 3rd last. Four members of our Team of the Century (Hardeman, Flower, Alves and Wells), in addition to Big Carl, Garry Baker, Ross Brewer and Ray Biffin. Unfortunately we didn't have any prolific goalkickers at that time, so I'd imagine that Ross Brewer was our best forward, along with a young Steven Smith.

Also noticed Marty Lyons name appearing. It's a shame we didn't get his son Jarryd.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
