From Bigfooty:

More doom and gloom.

  • Doesn’t matter. They will kick a cricket score against us next week.
  • Could 186 be under threat?
  • 160 points. Brown will kick 10
  • They are at least on a 6 day break coming back from Perth. Hopefully they can take it easy on us.
  • Forfeit the round and send the boys on the Kokoda Trail. Lets get everyone on the page, then give them an ounce of coke and 15 boxes of booze. Go!
  • Unless they go easy on us, our infamous Fitzroy defeat of '83 is in danger and BBB will beat his 10 goal haul.
  • If they bring their A game this will be a 150 point margin. I think they'll ease off tho. No point going harder than you need to be. Will be satisfied with anything under 70 points
  • Genuine question - what would people prefer:- total 18 player flood defence leads to final score where we lose 80-13 or play the more traditional structure and lose 166 - 52?
  • The only way our forward structure will score 52 against Melbourne's defensive structure is if they take half a dozen blokes off the ground in pity. But to answer your question, I'd take trying to play proper footy and losing 52-166 any day over not even trying to score for a whole match and still getting thrashed.
  • I literally can't name one player from our team yesterday who would be regularly getting a game for them. If they are at all serious they win by 100. If they put the foot down then it will get very very ugly.
  • Can we just forfeit? Please?
  • Hopefully the D’s just go through the motions and get a routine 80 point win, no injuries, fanfare etc just like we used to for 10 years. Lets pray they’re not in the mood for one of those ‘we owe these campaigners‘ a bloodbath type slaughter fest wins

My favourite:

  • If we forfeit the round it will actually increase our percentage!!!!
  • Perfect week for the godees to rest …The whole side
  • I reckon we can beat WC score.

We have been living rent free in opp fans heads.  I would say the same can be said for opp players and coaches.  Not many would fancy their chances against us.

Separated out the bf dialogue about Brown:

  • I’ll be booing that money hungry curly haired pasty vegan
  • Let’s get a steak sponsor and put the image on the ball - he won’t go near it
  • Shouldn't be too hard, we have plenty of butchers
  • You know your footy team is f’ed when comments like the above and others make you laugh at the actual reality of it all
  • Nah fu** that ungrateful attitude. Brown is an absolute legend and quality KPF who our incredibly incompetent list management team threw away for peanuts.
  • Ungrateful? Only one person in all this scenario was ungrateful.  Ben isn’t a legend.
  • Was happy for him to get a medal. Great bloke, great player.
  • Good for you…I was furious.
  • He can choke on his medal. When things got tough at the club he tried to hold us over a barrel for money.
  • The worst part is we accepted unders for him.
  • I hope Ben gets some genuine feedback on his behaviour in 2020, it might be the only thing we can get out of the game.
  • He knew when to jump ship. Good on him. JHF will be next. Who wants to play for a basket case team.
  • Brown turned us down to try and use us for leverage he didn’t have. We offered to make him about the most highly paid player on our list and he said ahhh nah.  Then went and got paid $150k less a year elsewhere.

Gave me a good laugh!

Pretty pathetic for them to get stuck into Ben Brown who they treated like crap in the hub and while his poor wife lost a baby.

Maybe if after 10 years of being a gun key forward for that joke of a club they didn't turn on him the minute he struggled with injury and personal issues, he would still be there kicking them goals and helping them lose by 50 points instead of 100 points each week.

If they think he left for money, they obviously have no idea what was happening at their club. He gets paid a lot less at Melbourne than he would have at North.

They chose to bottom out and dump good quality senior players. They are where they are because of poor management. Cry me a damn river.

I liked that some posters were decent enough to defend Ben and enjoy his success.

The rest I put into 'the haters will hate' category.

If any of their fans turn up this week it will be interesting to see if they boo (last year's North game was in Hobart so their die hards weren't there).

I hope they boo him and that he kicks 10.

It's his 150th game too!

Ben might just be inclined to score more than the whole North team put together.

After losing to North Melbourne for 14 games in a row (as I recall?) from about 2007 until 2018 I think it is about time we inflict a bit of pain back upon them.

Fingers crossed for a 100+ point win just like the Casey Demons did against the North Melbourne reserves in the VFL over the weekend.

Would love Big Benny Brown to kick 10 goals against his old side too!

It would be the merciful thing to do. (Applies to both parts of your statement above.)

It won't happen of course. Today's game is not about players kicking double figure goals. 4 or 5 I reckon is the max.

My favourite.

The Washington Generals would have a better chance of winning. In a twist, the AFL are going announce a combined team on Thursday night made up of the best of our available list and theirs. They're going to call it "Melbourne".

Now there's somebody with a tenuous grip on numeracy (if they forfeited their percentage wouldn't change).

I’m probs alone in feeling sorry for them. Especially the young players who weren’t a part of the North teams that inflicted all that pain. And the young supporters. I have a soft spot for North, therefore I don’t relish the idea of mercilessly thumping them. Now, if it was Essendon…

That is a reason why it was a favourite!

All I know is that come Saturday night I want to be sitting on top with 40 points and 170%.

I want Jake Bowey to play over 200 games for Melbourne and go his whole career undefeated.

CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR

I think I'd be happier, and I suspect Mazer would too, if ding's statement was modified to say "I want Jake Bowey to play over 200 games for Melbourne and go his whole career undefeated".

I was going to make a joke that there was nothing being said at Arden street as they put up the for sale sign and left.  But then that led to be us :(    They are lucky they have no debt otherwise they'd be in more trouble than we ever were.

This is actually a great proposition for sportsbet. I reckon it should pay BBB $2.40 v Norf $1.65.

Norf slight favourites just due to our likely spread of goalkickers.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

A few years ago, the Melbourne Football Club produced a documentary about the decade in which it rose from its dystopic purgatory of regular thrashings to the euphoria of a premiership victory. That entire period could have been compressed in a fast motion version of the 2025 season to date as the Demons went from embarrassing basket case to glorious winner in an unexpected victory over the Dockers last Saturday. They transformed in a single week from a team that put in a pedestrian effort of predictably kicking the ball long down the line into attack that made a very ordinary Bombers outfit look like worldbeaters into a slick, fast moving side with urgency and a willingness to handball and create play with shorter kicks and by changing angles to generate an element of chaos that yielded six goals in each of the opening quarters against Freo.

  • NON-MFC: Round 07

Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans. Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG. The round finishes with a less-than-thrilling affair between Hawthorn and West Coast at Marvel. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.

The Dees are back at the MCG on Thursday for the annual blockbuster ANZAC Eve game against the Tigers. Can the Demons win back to back games for the first time since Rounds 17 & 18 last season? Who comes in and who goes out?
