Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hi everyone.

This popped up in my youtube selections tonight so I thought I'd share it. The interviewer Dylan Buckley played for GSW and Carlton, I think. The interview is an hour long.

Haven’t listened to it yet. Can you elaborate what makes you think that?

My comment was a small hint of sarcasm actually.

I watched this last night. The obvious question was about his contract and he completely deflected and tried to make it more about Luke Jackson's contract then his.

He played a straight bat.

Obviously having some long hard thoughts about his future and seems to like the WA lure if it presents itself.

I’d be very surprised if he moved to WA.
His long term partner is here and so are his parents and I can’t see either leaving family.
Understand his brothers are in WA but he has just as many people in Victoria as he does in WA.
That’s not to say he won’t leave, and perhaps we are giving JJ wing time because we are worried he might, but he seems so heavily invested in the club. Something would have to go very wrong for him to leave IMO.

It may be best for peoples sanity if they stopped guessing on their interpretations of body language or non committal comments by players regarding their contracts.

My own thoughts are that I have no effing idea what individual players are going to decide and in particular to Brayshaw and Jackson why the would want to leave at this stage of their careers.

I love Gus and his courage in the Grand Final makes him a Demon legend IMO - but I do wonder about his longevity in the game, mainly because he lacks pace and will likely slow down in the next couple of years. He reminds me of Tom Rockcliff who was a great player early but he slowed up and retired quite early. Having said that, I would hate to see him go.

I just listened to it, and there was nothing to suggest that there is any lure to return to WA.

Gus said that he's getting a kick (playing well), and reading between the lines, I took that to mean that he's entitled to a decent contract. But he said that Dogga will get his, which I took as Jackson's the no.1 priority for the club, and Gus' contract is secondary.

Gus then reiterated how much he loved the guys he's playing with.

I don't think you can draw any conclusions from the podcast.

Think you'll find it was the significant injuries that retired Rockliff so quickly.

He had two major knee injuries in both legs and at one stage was in a wheelchair because of this.

Besides concussion, Brayshaw has been relatively injury free.

I give Gus credit for having some intelligence. WTF then would he give some hint of a WA future on some obscure podcast? Simply, it doesn’t make sense to me, and not sure why some posters would even consider this scenario a possibility, given the setting and the audience.

If you ever heard Gus interview I think that would be a pretty insulting statement for him. He's extremely articulate. Even if you listened to part of this podcast his insights into mental health, concussions should at least point you to the fact he's a deep thinker who is more than the stereotype that footballers are dumb.

He's also one unit away from finishing a finance degree. I know he started off with an engineering degree as well.

If I was a decent player and out of contract I would be leaving hints all over the shop whether I wanted to leave or not. Shows other clubs you're available. if they enquire and you get a serious offer you create a bidding war. Sucks for supporters. But at the end of the day, you're in afl for a short time; you need to maximise your earnings.

Taking him at face value....he says he doesn't know what decision he will make. That in itself means he is strongly considering leaving. Call me crazy but I think it makes a lot of sense.

He has family there (Andrew & others), would get a much bigger payday he is unlikely to get at the Dees for the rest of his career, and it would be a great adventure and test for him & Danielle before they settle down. Yes their lives are here...but they're beyond connected in footy circles and would have no shortage of mates over there in no time. Freo are on the up too and presuming they don't go all the way this year he would be joining a team poised to challenge where he can help push them over the line. He'd be remembered as a stalwart of both clubs, finish his career a multi club flag player (if they can get there), have more midfield time, more money, and lived (semi) abroad as a circuit breaker before he hits 30 and settles down.

Of course he loves his teammates. That won't be a significant factor as he's the type of guy that will fit into any club.

If I were in his shoes, I'd be telling Danielle let's have an adventure and see where this takes us. I would go.

I would have thought that such matters would be handled in private by the players' managers.

That's actually what he meant.

Duh.

Interesting that as one of the older players Gus recognising that Peter Jackson’s appointment ( at Demetriou’s request), and Peter recruiting Paul Roos started the Dees turnaround. Nice of him to recognise this

I'll bet he is far from the only player who understands how important Jackson and Roos were to not just a Premiership, but our very survival as a club. The AFL coercing/financing Jackson was effectively the end of the Norm Smith curse. Demetriou saw the problem and acted on it. Gil was the conduit.

I've had a man-crush on Gil since the day he announced our "not guilty" verdict, while saying "I don't know what tanking is" (paraphrasing). Never forget that Gil & co could have sank us and they chose not to. The only negative is poor Dean Bailey (God rest his soul) taking more of the blame than he deserved. R.I.P Dean.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
