I dont know why the sound of the umpires cannot be muted

Hawkins gave away 50 just hanging around in the protected zone. No worries mate.

Can Selwood dispose of the ball legally any more? Last 5 minutes all I've seen are throws, scoops and tunnels.

This is the thing Mazer.

During any game, umpires must see indiscretions that could be given as frees.

How do they decide when/ which to pay?

They carry a pin.

It's so we respect their adjudications more.

Hawks gameplan looks good. Playing quickly and moving it with pace through the midfield. Taking the game on. Similar to how Adelaide and Magpies played against us last year.

But… but… it’s Essendon. ESSENDON. 🤮🤮🤮🤮

Yep, and I always thought Essendon would be my true hate. But Geelong has it all:

  • Home town umpiring (thought it may end with televised games, but no)
  • Joel Selwood
  • Forwards who dive
  • Joel Selwood
  • Money thrown at the club because it's in a marginal seat
  • Joel Selwood
  • Shonky land deals
  • Families of footballers employed by Cotton On (see Judd and Visy)
  • Joel Selwood
  • Mogg's Creek
  • Chris Scott's cool beard
  • The 5 or so chairs provided to opposition supporters

But it's a TELEVISION INNOVATION

All TELEVISION INNOVATIONS are Good Things and can't be changed back.

Another great TELEVISION INNOVATION is the count down clock which adds nothing and only kills tension in a tight match,

Don't get me started!!!

Its a shame this game is becoming primarily about the umpiring, otherwise the game has been good to watch.

This doesn't appear to have aged well...

Come on Hawks! Do it for Jack’s 200th. I like Jack Gunston 🙂

After Hawkins gave away the 50m penalty for infringing the protected area, he demonstrated with his hands out. It should have been another 50.

Absolutely.... makes it a certain goal and possible outcome changer

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

The dominant storyline coming out of Round One for Saturday Night’s clash at Optus Stadium centres on the influence of the big men. The spotlight naturally falls on two elite ruckmen who, five years ago, shared the stage in Melbourne’s memorable premiership triumph.

  • NON-MFC: Round 02

The compromised AFL fixture will get another test this week with the first lot of teams getting a bye after only two matches. Despite this Round 2 starts off with two cracking games as the Hawks host the Swans at the G on Thursday Night and then on Friday Night the Crows host the Bulldogs at Adelaide Oval. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.

  • POSTGAME: St. Kilda

Never in doubt!!! In Steven King’s first game at the helm of the Melbourne Football Club, the Dees outlasted Saints in a wild, momentum-swinging thriller at the MCG, running out 13-point winners.
