BBB for Weidman/TMac. 9 day break to a home game so can't imagine anyone will need a rest

Brown returns for one of Weid or TMac. Do the FD go with Weid's brownie points from last week, or TMac's brownie points from ages back?

Smith deserves to come back too. Not sure who he comes in for. Hunt wasn't great so that's an option. Potentially Tomlinson depending on GWS" forward line?

BBB for anyone above 6ft in the forward line not named Fritsch

Petty in for anyone not named May or Lever

I can see Petty playing 2 games at Casey. He's been out for a fair while.

Happy to leave the Weid/TMac choice to the experts. It isn't easy to say the least

The weid and tmac both poor but I’d like to see how the weid goes playing alongside BB so tmac omitted for mine.

Hunt was ok I thought. smith for thommo.

Weid or TMac for Brown. Toss a coin.

Smith won't play as per the Goodwin "ain't broke don't fix it" rule.

But there's also the "we love Smith" rule. Which rule takes priority?

Tmac worked harder than weed.

And weed dies himself no favours with his lack of second efforts

Brown in and weed out.

Did you hear Max's comment about May having a hard time getting Smith to stand in the right spots the last few weeks? I chuckled.

I didn't, can you elaborate?

I thought that our zone and positioning was fantastic tonight and we really set the trap well. No matter what they did, where they tried to shift, we had it covered.

I felt that Lever probably had something to do with that. He positions well, directs players around him and knows how to read and drop into space. During the game I felt he was having an impact on our whole ground defence compared to last week..but it's hard to tell on the TV where don't get full views of the set up.

I'd be tempted to give Kozzie a week or 2 to find some form in the 2's.

OUT: Weid, Pickett

In: Brown, Chandler

Kozzie will never be dropped as long as he's doing the team/defensive things; especially if the next best is Kade Chandler, and I don't mean that unkindly. For the type of player Kozzie is, you just wait for the form to come, because it will.

I wanted to reach through the tv and slap the big Neanderthal for once again throwing his team mates under the bus in public. By far his worst trait as captain.

Kozzie had a poor night but kept going at second and third efforts. There was one play in particular where about 4-5 times it looked like Port would come away with it but he just kept going and going.

Casey won’t give him any additional confidence or anything, but a game like GC come come from nowhere.

I would like to see Sam given time with BBB but I think TMac still has runs on the board, plus he played a better game. I expect it’ll be as simple as BBB for Weid, though Hunt must be of shaky ground.

That interpretation of it did go through my head too, but at the end of the day, we don't know the real dynamics of the relationship with Max and Joel, or any of the players. It could be hurtful or they could all just laugh about it - who knows.

TMac just understands the game better than Weid. How to position himself where to lead etc.

Especially in relationship to Brown. Not so much with Weids, which is where some of the problems are coming from.

The May, Tomlinson, Lever trio seems to work better than going smaller with Smith, but I just feel Tomlinson is a long way off his best and Smith has a chance right now to finally string games.

We need depth in case Hunt or Rivers go down or if Gus has to go to the midfield.

Assuming he’s healthy and gets through some trainings I’d get Smith back in

That was it really. Started with a comment of May having missed Lever, then that. He said it with a smirk on his face - I think it was just dry Max humour laced with a tinge of truth.

That's all I was looking for really: full on joke, dead serious, or wry mirth. Thanks.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
