POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Port Adelaide

We still haven't beaten anyone, haha

So anyway humble pie time

Everytime I think Harmes is off the boil, and his position is suspect he turns in a belter of a game. Was really impressed yesterday and loved post game footage showing him power from back 1/3rd to front 3rd for a mark and goal, his running was stellar. I really wish the club would let us see some of their running times they are spectacular athletes and not just Langdon and ANB.

On attack...

I want Weid to have another chance because i thought our fwd 50 entries were poor, am not complaining about the win but i really don't understand our execution into forward 50 yesterday and haven't read an explanation that satisfies me. I totally get bank the wins, and you can understand from my handle I am into the defense, and Goodwins' presser was totally fair and insightful. But I still think the inside 50's were slack and neither Tmac or Weid got a fair shake.

I did notice Weid back pedaling like crazy in one contest when he realized he had been sucked under the flight of the ball and in another he was ineffectually stuck on the side of the contest, but overall there was not enough contests to have a decent sample size to make a judgement on whether he stays or goes. That said i think BBB is in his best form.

Also

Cannot agree that Sparrow > Brayshaw, even on potential. Like Sparrow and will be servicable due to his strength but Brayshaw clearly has more vision and weapons.

Weid will get yet another chance when someone is injured or Tom loses the plot .

Otherwise there is no reason to play him in best 22.

One game at a time  for now.  It is not a sprint , it is more like a marathon. We are getting the wins for now. GO DEES!

Yes W one game at a time and now 9 days to ponder GWS let’s hope that they have a hard tough game this weekend. I usually enjoy watching the replay but have only watched the last 10 minutes of the second a couple of times. Still trying to figure out what is going on with Clarry and Tracc?? Our forwards had a very crowded work place which allowed us to set up outside 50 with great effect. Strange game from Port.

Love how we are banking wins playing in second gear.

Offence will switch on when we need.

I feel as if our games this year can be described as 'warming up the engine'; we are moving to operating temperatures across the ground and across responsibilities with a common focus. In a few weeks - perhaps, sooner - we are going to be hot, hot, hot and each line of our team is going to be rampantly unstoppable.

At the present moment, opposition teams have the luxury of putting a tag on some of our elites. The is short-term, we are going to give them hell.

Just adding our game review from last night - expect a little blowback from the comments about Pickett ducking into the tackle, but you gotta call what you see... and it is more in relation to the plethora of players employing this tactic. Anyway, hope you enjoy.

Love your write up, understand and agree with your comment on ducking.

That said, I do find it almost cowardly to pick on a young player to highlight it. For years certain Geelong players have mastered this art, the Dogs followed (Hunter prolific at it), but so few commented on it. Kids make easier targets I guess…

The biggest positive in our last game was that Max was in career best.

That and our depleted backline only gave away a few junk time goals.

And maybe having other mids like Jj step up.

Frittas back to some form.

Once Bbb comes back it will be a different fwd line completely.

I just finished watching the game and all you calling for Spargo, Kozzie or Hunt to be dropped are mad. They played their role and did it as well as anyone on the field. We will make room for BBB & Salem and that's it. The only other changes will be forced due to injury or H&S

Not a Petty fan I take it? He's a walkup start once matchfit.

We have three star backmen in May, Lever & Salem, four if you count Brayshaw. We are spoiled for choices for the remaining spots and I'm not terribly fussed over who takes them. Any of Hibberd, Smith, Hunt, Rivers, Bowey, Tomlinson or Petty and we still have the best defence in the league. It's not that I don't like Petty, but I don't think we'll be dropping anyone for him unless we have to

Jordons best game?

Definitely.  At the beginning of the year I rated Tom Sparrow a fair bit ahead of JJ, but after 4 games I now have JJ ahead ……… and that’s not to suggest that Sparrow has been poor.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens when he is match fit (could take a few VFL games given he missed a fair portion of pre-season), I don’t the Tommo’s doing much wrong at the moment so the current thoughts could be it’s his spot until he puts in poor performances.

Gotta love Titus O'Reily 😁

Port Adelaide (36) v Melbourne (68)
Port Adelaide spent most of this game trying to figure out new and exciting ways to be terrible a football.
And Port Adelaide fans spent most of this game trying to figure out who will coach them after round ten.
To be fair, the Power did try to take it up to the Dees, but like a boxer facing an opponent who doesn’t have a knockout punch, Melbourne just sat back, absorbed whatever Port were trying to do, then hit back when the opportunity presented itself.
It was a night where Melbourne’s best defensive players were Port Adelaide’s players.
Like Zak Butters who gave away an off-the-ball free kick to Jake ‘11-0’ Bowey, just as the Power were a chance to kick their first goal.
And Mitch Georgiades, who managed to not kick a goal despite being in a position where a goal was the only possible outcome.
It was interesting stuff.
Melbourne it must be said seemed to be in first gear, hardly dominating the game, but the big difference was the Demons had a second gear and even used it occasionally in the second and third quarters.
The only interesting part of this game was seeing how long it took Port Adelaide to score their first goal.
The answer was 22 minutes into the third quarter, which, if you’re new to Australian Rules football, is quite bad.

We should get Fuchs as a sponsor, that would be apt.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
