Just dropping here to note that since that horror time in Cairns in late 2020, we have gone 30-4-1.

I’ve said before that I truly believe that it was up there, when Max got the boys together, as far away from the MCG both geographically and spiritually as it is possible to be, that the curse was really lifted.

long may the run continue.

That is insane! I didn’t realise it was such a winning record. I’d love to know what the most games before a loss is if anyone knows.

If you start with the last  9 in 2020 wE are 28-7-1

We have won last 7 in 2021 and 2 in 2022 which makes 9 and nearly matches 2 in 2020 and 9 in row start of last year for 11.

Yes, amazing we’ve had two streaks of nine wins since the start of 2021.

Think it's 27 or so, Geelong from the 50s

In hindsight that Cairns disaster could be marked as a turning point as significant as the Geelong loss to North way back, which promoted a collected removal of heads from 4rses and launched a incredible run of team and individual brilliance.

But I think we all know that things only really turned when Jake Bowey joined the club.

We did 19 under Smithy in 1955-56

Let’s break that one!

And you can tell they did not enjoy any of the losses in 2007. Three of the four teams they lost to that year, they played a second time after the loss;

Lost to the Dogs in Round 1, then beat them by 75 in round 16.

Lost to the Kangaroos in Round 5, then beat then by 27 in round 20 and 106 in the qualifying final.

Lost to Port (breaking the streak) in round 21, and then posted 163 to 44 in the Grand Final.

By the way, when that streak was broken, they then started another 12 game winning streak, followed by a 15 game winning streak, followed by a 13 game winning streak.

Works out to, um, 15+12+15+13= 55 wins, 4 losses from the start of the multi-streak to the next time they lost two games in a row.

But we've got Bowey now, so all is well.

26-7-1 since Glenn Bartlett sprayed the team after the Port loss

28-7-1 since Port loss I reckon .

2020 run was W Adelaide W North L Dogs W Pies W Saints LSwans LFreo W GWS W Bombers   6-3

plus 2021  20-4-1 and 2-0 in 2022.

That makes 28-7-1 in 36 games

BTW Goody's record is 64 - 48 - 1 since Round 1 in 2017 over 113 games.

Thought this thread was going to be about Bowey.

9 wins.

Anyone know what the best streak from debut actually is?

but that was far from continuous games

in fact it took him 4 seasons after being dropped numerous times. 5 games only in his first 3 years.

still, that is the record, even if there is a bit of apples and oranges

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
