I think if Melksham has a good game, he might replace Sparrow. Tommy hasn’t had the best two weeks and I think Melksham across half forward still offers good goal scoring power.  Dunstan is the other key player who’s probably going to get a chance at promotion.

Two things from this game.

1. Umpiring is genuinely horrific.

2. Our VFL listed players really aren't much chop. They're the ones butchering the ball easily. Bryce Milford is the only one worth keeping an eye out as a potential AFL spot.

Woey looks good. Milford hasn’t done much.

Van Rooyen looks like a proper footballer

Woewodin can play

Chandler next in line

Weideman May have played his last game for Melbourne. Would prefer the journeyman Brown to Weid

I am loving having access to VFL live. I finally get a chance to see the AFL listed players building form.

Sandringham looking bog ordinary all over the ground.

I am fan of the Weid but he is looking below par today. Constantly out of position or dropping marks that only he gets to.

Bedford not getting heaps of it but looks AFL ready.

Still working out numbers, personnel etc...

Jimmy Monroe's probably the best player on the ground, but I agree that he lacks the skills to be an AFL player. Disappointing that guys like George Grey  don't get a game when 16 melbourne players are playing.

Weid looks a bit down on confidence. Bedford in our best at half time just needs to tidy up his kicking a bit. Van Rooyen a couple of very good contested marks and 2 goals. Laurie looks like Bowey II coming through. Woewoedin looks very composed with a nice kicking style. playing well as is Howes. Dunstan started to control clearances more as the game went on. another St Kilda gift.

Brown with 3.3

JVR 2.1  how does jvr look?

1/2 time.  Casey up by 6 goals.
Brown is a standout. JVR will be a very very good player.
Woey jnr moves well. Howes also. Good signs.
Daw ok v Ryder.
Dunstan and Bedford just seem to be poor decision makers.  That’s what let’s them so far.
Munro is Casey heart and soul player. Rips in.
Weid is still too timid in my view. He needs to just demand it and crush anyone in his way to get it. Nice boy still.

Van Rooyen is going to be a great addition for Melbourne. I think you're being a bit tough on Wiedeman. It's the first game of the season but I do think that chest mark he dropped was pretty much inexcusable.

Mitch Brown a CLEAR best on ground so far.

Weideman struggling.

Brown is on the money, reading the incomings very well and towering over the packs. A couple of 'gettable' misses that may well have been converted if he took a longer run-up. Dunstan looks capable but is lacking in explosive pace for a senior role (at the present moment). Woewodin is good value but the 'cramping' of the game, packs and loose ball receives are doing him no favours. We are well ahead at half-time, but need to lift the pace considerably in the second half. There are signs of some good young talent for the Dees - some of these young guys need to experiment with being play-makers in advance of the ball - just like the work of Tracca, Fritta and Clarrie.

Bedford could be a future AFL play-maker, alongside Woey's son. The Weed still looks disinterested, unmotivated, hesitant, seconds behind his role for the team.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
