To get longer term off-field success the club has to show the supporter that 2021 was no fluke, look at the WB in 2016 they were a young team who had injuries and won the flag from outside the top 4 yet they did very little in the next 4 seasons so supporters drop off without more immediate success.

So 2022 has to show our supporters we are a genuine contenders for 2022-2025 and then we will get sponsors and members signing to be a part of the on-field enjoyment.

Certainly doesn't seem like "sh*t the bed" territory hey...

I believe we should be doing a lot more to bring in new members mainly young. Whatever happened to football clinics ,school and otherwise. We have some great assets in Petraaca ,Gawn ,Oliver who are not only great respected footballers but to me seem to have good personalities. In particular Petracca seems to be such a great down to earth guy who be great with kids. I guess these guys doing clinics might be taking time from training or their other duties. They are being paid well so I dont believe they should resent doing clinics. Memberships bring in reliable renewal income which ensures long term financial health of the club.

We also use to telephone lapsed and prospective members by the players.

I agree we need todouble our efforts in the maximum number of members from our current success.

They do a lot of stuff that just doesn't get publicized, but wouldn't have thought many clubs would be doing clinics the last couple of years.

Not sure if you are aware but Covid has played a significant impact in this..

I’m talking about going forward from the flag and what the club as a whole is doing to sustain this.

Pies missed by 1/2 a game in 1991 ( to the Dees no less)

But Hawks in 79, 2009

So in the last 50 years, 5 Premiers have not made follwoing year finals by at least a whole game.

Interestingly most/all were coached to the premiership by top notch coaches, with 4 of the 5 in the past 30 years. Recent history that can't be ignored, or just mitigating circumstances in each case.?

Now Lord Nev, the essential issue which this thread is trying to address is the worry that we are not capitalizing on winning the flag.  Quoting a magnificent effort by the sponsorship department before we won the flag is not admissible.  Very impressive though.

Now if we go on the premise of the 5 year success rule, any success takes 5 years to fruition then we need to set some targets for um 2027 ( to prove we have capitalised on winning the flag)

Obviously increase in Sponsorship

and for me

Substantial increase in Baby, Little and Young Demon memberships

So, you're suggesting that perhaps less than 6 months, before a ball has even been bounced, is a little too early to judge then?

However talking to Richmond / Hawks friends, they've all said it was the first one they were most passionate about and that means the most.  Because we didn't get that opportunity, if we can win another this year or in coming years it may almost feel like our first.

Not how we would script it but I reckon this would ultimately be better for the club's membership, supporter base growth and finances (though obviously impossible to say for sure).  Hence the blessing in disguise.

Perhaps too well.  Most of the items I want to purchase more of are no longer for sale at the demons shop so I will have to go to the AFL shop.

Ok, how about this - despite being reigning premiers, we lag behind the majority of the league in terms of sponsorship revenue. The primary product we sell is footy and our footy has delivered the ultimate prize - a flag (and hopefully more to come) - so now is the time to maximise our return on sponsorship. Sponsors want to buy into the type of success we’ve just had and our commercial team need to pull their socks up, instead of sitting back & basking in the on-field success as if they’ve contributed to them. We’re an exciting young team & no longer a hard sell. I sincerely hope the commercial team are being made to work hard on their own patch for their bonuses. Longterm sponsorship deals should have been avoided so as not to harm our ability to maximise revenue in this period.

You do know that contracts are in place and these contracts would have monetary value assigned to them and years of contract. When my old company sponsored the Roos the contract was usually 3 years with a set amount for year 1 then an agreed % increase or value increase in the next 2 seasons. Some contracts would be the same value for each year of the agreement ie $70k in each year.

Depending on when the contracts were signed then we'd be locked in for a period and if they came to me asking for more money I'd tell them to check the agreement and I don't appreciate the approach as we have supported you already.

New agreements are a different story but it is extremely difficult to find shed loads of partnership $$ to spend in the world currently.

We can’t win anymore games until the next season starts

this is one of the most bizarre threads on demonland, given all the media reports, the official corporate filings, and the sentiment towards the mfc has been on the up and up 

I agree with the sentiment of this thread. Not enough ‘entrepreneurial spirit’ being shown. Where’s Ricky Nixon when ya need him?
