Great win 4 quarter effort really looking the goods at the business end of the season.

How do you rate Paxman’s first half?

When she learns to run all day, hit targets and tackle with passion, she'll be pretty good.

(It's an attempt at a joke . . . I love her to bits!)

Great win by the girls. Big test next week!

But to the girls’ credit, they just keep getting the job done

Getting the job done, yep, that about sums up this game up for me.

Every player did some small or big part to get us over the line and all seemed very aware and focused on what needed to be done, even if it didn't always come off.

I think I wrote in a match report a few weeks' back (or maybe I had to cut for brevity's sake!) that Heath is so clearly a player that loves to have a really defined task and just dig into it. So I loved her role in this one: stop Kearney. And she sure did. If only she'd kicked that goal, it would have been so well deserved!

really enjoyable game. loved tayla harris' efforts putting pressure on in the forward line and her flying for marks. she seems so stoked to be playing with the dees and especially daisy again! love to see it.. also, bannan, mithen, pearce, paxman all really played stood out to me. loved the hard at it contest work in the last qtr from both sides.. they were clearly out on their feet.

One of the most physical AFLW games I can recall.  Our defence and the coach's bench were the difference imo.  We 'gutsed' it out well, and the girls seem to have inherited a dash of 'never say die' attitude from our men.

Yes, much like the mens team, it is easy to see that roles are being embraced. Unlike the boys I am unsure if we can beat everyone but the girls won’t die wondering that’s for sure

Whatever has happened to Tayla this year by coming home to the Dee's has been a master-stroke. A bit of maturity perhaps, maybe Daisy's influence, maybe a stronger culture around her... whatever changed has been fantastic.

Cracker of a grab tonight and just a massive presence for the girls to walk taller. 👌

She never played this well at Carlscum.

Much like the men through the season last year.
Hope our good injury run continues and our guns hit some timely form for the finals.

Yes, wonder whether they can replicate the boys and go to the top in the last home and home game of the season, but hopefully not on their last kick.

must say tho this has many of the hallmarks of men’s MFC circa   2021. Let’s hope so anyway.

Beat Freo (in Perth) next week and we virtually have 2nd spot (and a pre finals bye, Home finals) sewn up.

iirc we beat them in Freo this time last year so we can do it again.

If we do it will be our best chance at a flag altho Crows will be hard to beat in Adelaide in a GF.

I thought Lily Mithen had her best game of the year tonight too

She's been very good for the past month or so

I wish Stinear would just leave Daisy in defence. Like he always does when we are struggling.
If we want to beat both Freo and Adelaide, we have to kick goals and lots of them. Bannon and Hore are naturals up forward, and are kicking goals. They are a more dangerous target and complement Tayla .

And let's be serious, we won this game courtesy of two 50m penalties.

The girls have always had that attitude. The boys inherited it from them i reckon

Just watched the game (family engagement yesterday evening)

It wasn’t pretty but it was effective. Resolute defence, 50m penalties and Tayla Harris the difference

Pretty even contribution across the board. Paxy was probably BOG. Don’t know why people doubt her

Gillard showing great composure for a 2 gamer.

Huge game next week. We can absolutely win over there. Freo could barely get the ball out of their defensive 50 for the entire second half yesterday against, it has to be said, an excellent Crows outfit (they’re going to be very hard to stop this year).

We are winning big games at the business end of the season. It’s all to play for

Go Dees

Exactly.

No surprises, another MOTY contender from Tayla:

And just rounding out the round, loved this new tradition created by Krstel Petrevski and Matthew Whelan, the JoogBoo Birlirre (hunt and spirit) award for indigenous round, awarded to Paxman:

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
