Niall in the Age made a really good case for Angus to leave the MFC.

It is not just about money.

It is a short window as an AFL player. Does a really talented player want to be remembered as a bit player? Angus could walk into many teams and into their midfield and get close to a Brownlow medal.

Or he could stay at the Dees and potentially get another couple of premiership medals.

If Angus was my son, I would be urging him to leave.

Not a bit player, he’s recognised as a very good player and an integral part of a premiership side, sure he’s a rung down from our superstars in Trac and Clarry but that’s what it takes for team success: isn’t that more important than individual accolades?

Dunno, Sisso,

But I will respect any decision that Angus makes.

Put yourself in his boots. How would you like to be remembered ??

Mitch Hannan left because he could see a future elsewhere and he has done very (very) well. I (for one) will not boo Angus if he decides to go to Freemantle (or anywhere else for that matter).

What a load of rubbish.  If he goes somewhere else it will be for cash.  The fact he is a premiership player and played his best game for years in the big one means he will never be remembered as a bit player.

I actually think he’ll stay anyway, he’s playing with his best mates, having team success, looks like he’s embraced his role and is enjoying his footy to me. I think the only reason he’ll leave is if he get a financial offer he can’t refuse and we couldnt begrudge him that if it’s an insane amount of money.

Same Mitch Hannan who left a club in the preseason before they won a flag?

Hannan left because we had no more cash to offer him and Bulldogs swooped.

The same, Lord Nev. He would never have been in our premiership team, but came close to destroying our priemiership in that third  quarter.

Look, guys. We all want Brayshaw to stay. We just have to understand he wants to consider his options. The guy could win a Brownlow medal at another club or win a couple more premiership medals here. Short time frame, hard decision. It is his decision and I will espect it.

They showed Tracc on Ch 9 tonight saying that Gus isn’t going anyway??

What? He did nothing in the Grand Final mate.

Did nor mean to say I "espect" Brayshaw's decision, I meant to say I will respect his decision.

Personal glory over team success? If he was my son I'd be telling him to stay.

Have you not seen the replay of the third quarter, when Hannan had the opportunity to put us to the sword?

Have a look and a listen to the Dennis Cometi radio commentary.

We were all petrified when Hannan got his hands on the ball n the the quarter. Where were you, my Lord ??

You can call it harsh if you wish, but I rate his talent and footy smarts highly and I think he got better as the year went on, which isn't a 'harsh' call IMO given he was playing a completely foreign role for him.

Had a sensational final series, but i think early in the year he was a bit patchy as he found his feet.

Looks like you have been influenced by the media Nev.

SWYL is spot on. Just took people (and the media) a while to recognise the value of his selfless role:- that he performed all year long.

Mate, I just watched the replay again yesterday.

He did not 'come close to destroying our premiership' with this 7 disposals and 0 scoreboard impact.

I am with you Lord Nev, that free that he was paid when Sparrow was breaking away and his in effectual hadn ball may have stirred us into our frenzy.!!

Wow, you guys must have seen a different replay to the one I have watched 46 times now.

I am struggling to beat my eldest son, who lives in New York, to 57 times.

Look, guys. We are all fervent Dees supporters on here.

Ed Langdon may be content to go down in history as the best wingman in the modern game, but I just cannot see why you think Brayshaw will stay at a club that will deny him the opportunity to win that Brownlow. He already has a premiership medal. He has got to have the desire to go one better.

Look, I hope he stays. I just don't see the logic.

His management must be telling him to leave. And the Saints would be the best fit IMO.

Gotta say it is good that the playing group are forbidden to access this site.

None of us will ever forget his grand final game in 2021. What a player, what a game.

Angus will make his decision and i will respect it.

Brayshaw has grown into the wing position shown up with his total of 69 disposals in the 3 finals.  That's a good outcome (playing well in vital games)

These days teams play through both wings as well as through the middle so the wingmen are becoming very important players again especially with the stationary man on the mark ... switching wide from a mark or free (unimpeded) is a weapon

And the 666 rule allows the wingmen to be in space 20-30 times a game

Brayshaw is not just a defensive wingman anyway ... he just happens to be good defensively as well as possessing other skills (which includes attacking play)

Brayshaw & Langdon complement each other very well ... different types but that's a plus

As others have stated, unless he gets a colossal offer elsewhere (unlikely in my view) he'll stay a Demon

A ‘defensive wingman’ is a disciplined player who doesn’t know how to play wing.

Angus can build to more than that.

And @rollinson 65 - he probably has his own drivers that aren’t necessarily where he finishes in the Brownlow…

When I look back at the Premiership he played in - he is remembered right behind Petracca, Oliver, and Fritsch.

So maybe we should all stop projecting what we would do onto his future actions and just enjoy the present.

A trepidation summary.

A point that has been missed, is that going to a weaker club doesn’t automatically make you a better player:- Even if you are given more opportunity, such as a starting inside mid.

Maybe staying at Melb, on a wing, in a successful team, with excellent structure, actually allows him to have a better career, vs being a starting inside mid at a struggling team such as St.Kilda or Hawthorn or whoever. Albeit retiring with less $$ than he would have if he departed.

I'd also be looking at what life after football could bring.

Earning less money in your football career but being a multiple premiership player at one club, maybe with a coaching career, might be more lucrative over your lifetime than earning more immediate money but with a lesser achievement.

Of course, not all think longer term of life beyond football.

If Angus was my son, I'd be advising...

"Stay and win some more flags, with your mates. Thats what footy is about."

what's so wrong about being a wingman?  it can be a very strategic and influential position.

i don't get the "but he's only a wingman" sentiment

wingmen have won the brownlow in the past

many past wingmen have been revered players

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
