Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why are you , and a few others, convinced that Gus wants a media career post playing?

He is currently studying finance (?) at Uni. I see him more the successful business tycoon as opposed to a media man.

Yea fair enough. I'm just saying he doesn't need to be a star midfielder/brownlow medallist with a big payday. But good call by you

,Gus might leave coz he is ‘bit’ type player?

he almost won a norm Smith and turned the GF for us!

id say he is bloody important part of our team

Nobody's going to argue with that analysis mate. His third quarter in the Granny was crucial.

But you need to think of Gus as a human being, an elite athlete who has options.

Think of Ed Langdon, mate. Really happy to embrace that wing role. Run a marathon every week, get a kick occasionally. Turn a game when you get that opportunity.

While I have the microphone,  can I say I thought Pickett's Granny was one of the best games I have seen him play? Hardly a possession and no goals, but what a game he played. Petracca's amazing dribble goal would not have happened if Kosi had not taken out Dunkley.

Back to the topic, DubDee, can you not see why Angus would be considering his options?

Brayshaw got nowhere near the Norm Smith in 2021. He was playing on a wing FCS !!  In 2018, he got bloody close to the Brownlow. If people on here can't understand why Gus is looking at the next 5-6 years, they have rocks in their heads.

More premiership opportunities at the Dees or a tilt at the Brownlow ??

I say again, we all want him to stay, but we need to respect the player and live with his decision.

I am not ignoring other posts on this thread, but I am thinking Freo or the Saints for Angus.

Brayshaw can find more of the footy on the wing. He played a defensive wing style. But he was getting a feel of the role. I have no doubt he will find more of the ball as he gains more confidence in his position. He looked good in the practice match. I think he can improve his goalkicking, and push into the forward line, becoming an unusual defensive winger who can damage the scoreboard. That would be a very effective role. The more accountable he makes his opponent the less his opponent is able to be an attacking weapon.

Really? He didn't feature in the top five voting. Petracca, Fritsch, Oliver, Salem and Daniel...

He was in our Top5  it doesn't matter about Daniels. !!

To be honest those 4 and Angus were easily the best for us and Clarry Salo snd Gus were all equal third in my opinion behind Trac  and Fritta.

If Brayshaw leaves, his motivation will be money, not winning a Brownlow. In 2019, he played 22 games as an inside mid and got 0 Brownlow votes. In fact, aside from 2018 when he got 21 votes, he has polled a total of 1 vote. So let's stop this nonsense of Gus leaving to seek individual glory at another club.

Truth be known, Gus has probably received a starting offer for his next contract and thinks he should get some games under his belt to see if there is a better offer at the middle or end of the year.

I can't see Gus leaving, he's popular with the other players and has some good friends at the club, plus why would you want to leave a club that is on the edge of greatness for a bit of extra cash that the government will take half of anyway.

A lot of interesting comments on here about Gus and his future since the announcement that he is delaying contract renewal talks. What is more interesting is that there were none of these same thoughts and comments about Gus before the announcement.

Pre announcement: "what a great year Gus has had, particularly the finals"; "what a great role player Gus has developed into and how important he and his role is in the team", etc.

Post announcement: "Gus wants more mid time and is looking elsewhere to get it"; "Gus wants more money"; "Gus is overpaid for a role player and has to take a pay cut so that we can keep Jacko and Oli" etc

Is this our MFCSS resurfacing? Let's perhaps chill a bit and see what pans out.

FWIW, I'd be very surprised if he has even considered looking elsewhere.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking.

putting contact talks on hold doesn’t have to mean your considering rival offers.

do we even know if Gus himself has put talks on hold or

Gus and the club decided it would be best for both parties to get other deals finished first.

I wouldn’t put any faith in the bloke who wrote the article knowing, considering he suggested Freo as an option, when Gus has publicly stated, more than once, he’s staying in Melbourne.

yeah I got the norm bit wrong, I was thinking of Fritsch I think (or maybe wasn't thinking at all!?)

I don't mind if Gus is considering his options, I just don't know why he would. He is at home, been here from the dark times and can now enjoy the success.  More flags or a tilt at a brownlow?  I don't think any player would consider wanting the latter if the former was a realistic option

I don't think me saying he is important to our team and really wanting him to stay is not showing him respect.

Given his concussion history he is always not far from being one big hit away from being finished. If he got the chance to maximise his next contract, where ever that is, then good luck to him. I would love for him to stay but his next contract should be his best pay day. Hope it's with us but he has paid his dues and if it's better for him personally to move then good luck to him. I think he is smart enough to love the club but also be pragmatic about his future.

Hopefully we can make the best offer to him having been the closest to his development and being aware of what is required to ensure his long term welfare. It could be a test for the club and can give a real message to all players of the genuine features of club loyalty. It's not always about a huge one off pay check.

As a qualified human  resources practitioner (retired) it was always clear cut that security, stability and autonomy, were always the best elements and drivers of worker performance. While recent industrial relations practice seems to concentrate on short term contracts with emphasis on salary, there is much emerging evidence that this may be less effective for productivity and progress of organisations.

Disagree with this.If all falls through on transfer to another Club, and there is a lot of big ifs in transferring, he will have to put up with " he had everything at his feet including security and fame potentially where he was."..stay.

It is inevitable that we will lose someone from the current 22 unless they start accepting unders. For Brayshaw, he is already get highly overpaid for his role/position so at best he’ll get 80-90% of his current contract. Realistically, to keep LJ and keep something aside for Oliver next renewal, he’s going to need to goto 60-70% circa 450K pa. Others approaching renewal will need to do the same.

I think you're greatly underestimating our list management. i would suggest Brayshaw would be on the board as a priority re-signing.

I don’t get how anyone could think of leaving to “have a crack at a Brownlow” vs stay to try win another premiership with your best mates. I know which one I’d choose.

If it comes down to money, that is a different thing.

I think the wing suits him, now he has warmed to it. He has a good overhead game. His kicking can be hit and miss but generally makes good decisions. He’s brave as anything and is a good inside/outside mix. He’s not explosive enough to challenge our current centre square crop, but saying he’s “just a role player” down plays his very real physical and mental attributes. He’s a gun, and a team man, and worth some coin.

None of us really know what Gus is really thinking but one thing is for sure is that he is an all in member of a selfless Team working as one unit to bring about success and frankly I do not believe that he would be playing the Club Unit off against his desire to play on the ball. I guarantee you that the Coaches and more so the players know that they are getting the best out of Gus in the position he plays on the wing.  Gus I feel would absolutely embrace that concept of Team unity and he would know mentally that he is helping the Team effort without ill feeling about where some want him to play. He is bigger than that.

Don’t know. Do you have intel into what players are paid and how that fits into the cap?

None of us do Bobby, but there's talk his last contract was around 625K after his third finish in the Brownlow. Assumption is he would want similar for his upcoming contract. From a club perspective is it willing to part with that sort money for someone who finished 14th in the B&F last season and has been out of the midfield mix for three years. Also, worth mentioning that Oliver, Jackson, Fritsch and Pickett have big contract renewals coming up and we've put under the squeeze with big contracts to Petracca, Lever, Viney, May, Gawn, TMac,  Salem, BBB, Melksham, etc.

I haven’t heard “homesick” from any of our interstate recruits since Mark and Debra Brayshaw started taking them in. You’d be mad not to keep top quality people like the Brayshaws at our club!

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
