There's still 21 plus players; we should recognise recognise their effort as much as the men (actually more so as they give up more for less); but if having 2 less players reduce votes: let's make it 5.

Hanks

and if we’re doing 5

Can't argue with the maths!

I'd then be

5. Birch

4. Zanker

3. L.Pearce

2. Hanks

1. Lampard

5   zanker

4    Birch

3    hanks

2     sherriff

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to VOTES: AFLW Rd 1 vs Western Bulldogs

3.  E. Zanker

2.  L. Pearce

1.  T. Hanks

5. Zanker -- a real difference maker in the midfield. Saved the game when it looked like the doggies were going to overrun us.

4. L. Pearce -- doing the Max-style kick behind play thing, and doing it very very well.

3. Birch -- had a great game, but occasionally a bit panicky/unclean with her disposal. Fix that up and she'd have been BOG.

2. Hanks -- as always, a smooth mover and good user through the middle.

1. Sherriff -- both tough at the contest and skillful when the ball was on the outside, a key link-up piece in most of our best passages of play.

Apologies: Lampard, Tarrant, Hore, Heath, Gay, Harris (the difference from Cunningham last season to Harris last night was like night and day -- I don't think Tayla will ever quite be the player that her media profile demands, but she'll be a very important structural piece for us).

Forgot a couple in my apologies

Thanks for getting this going.

May as well chip in mine from the match report...although on reflection I've switched Birch and Zanker; perhaps I over-compensated in trying to avoid over-rewarding my favourite player.

5. Zanker - As mentioned I've been on board the Zanker train since it departed the station. Especially glad to see her hit the scoreboard.

4. Birch - Saved some goals (and nearly cost a shocker!) but clearly had a big impact in a somewhat depleted backline.

3. Hanks - I always feel like I gloss over her performances, but she's that consistent I feel like I'm just repeating myself. So good in traffic, so balanced. Hope we're saying T.Hanks on W Award night.

2. Sherriff - Glad to see some love for Sherriff above too. She's come a long way. Desperate and courageous.

1. Hore - Wasn't a prolific lead-up game by any means, but when her shots were there, she took them. Which as we know, is kinda important!

AFLCA Votes are in

9 Eden Zanker (MELB)

8 Tyla Hanks (MELB)

7 Ellie Blackburn (WB)

3 Kate Hore (MELB)

3 Libby Birch (MELB)

5 Zanker

4 Birch

3 Hore

2 Hanks

1 L. Pearce

Daisy gets honourable mention. She missed an easy goal in the 3rd but otherwise was smart and clean with the footy.  Classy to watch.

5. Zanker.  What can you say? 183cm runs like the wind, natural footballer and can kick 40m+.  Stood up when the side needed it with Karen and Lily off the ground for long periods

4. Hanks.  Also took up the reins when needed.  Just tough and skilled.  Look at her tackling and run from the back pocket in the 1st which eventually created the goal.

3. Birch.  Saved the bacon time and time again.  Had to do it all on her own at times.

2. L. Pearce.  Clean out of the ruck, and then follows up and then some more.  A nightmare for opposition

1. Kate Hore.  Did what she needed to do when needed.  Just keeps bobbing up at the right time.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

The Dogs reigned supreme in 2018 with an inaugural AFLW premiership cup and the Demons matched this feat by winning the cup as the Season 7 2022 champions.Meggs wasn’t born when the Doggies won their first VFL premiership cup against the Demons in 1954. Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
