That’s my point.

My point is that all the clubs would have a fairly good idea of revenue needed to run the club and thrive, membership numbers for most clubs these days is just a prestige thing in my opinion. I am not trying to understate the value of membership revenue to the total revenue required.

Fantastic result for our mighty club, looks like all nephews, nieces and grand kids are on board the Demon Express and boy does it feel great to be member of a well managed successful AFL Club.❤️💙💕

65,000 is a huge win for our club, anything above this now is a bonus. No reason why we cant keep this kind of growth gowing for the next few years at least!

Wow! Just amazing! I am glad to be proven wrong.

I didn't expect us to get past the milestone of 65,000+ Melbourne Demons members.

This really is an absolutely fantastic achievement by the Melbourne Football Club.

To think that 10 years ago we were lucky to get to 30,000 members and we were striving for 40,000 members which, at the time, seemed almost impossible.

The late and great Jimmy Stynes would be incredibly proud! It brings a tear to my eye thinking about how far we have come after so many years of pain and misery. 🥲

We now need to have sustained success over the next few years with more Premierships so that we can compete with the bigger clubs and look to have 80,000+ Melbourne Demons members on a regular basis in the near future! 😎👍

Those $13 memberships…

If only Clayton wore a higher number, amirite?

These numbers are quickly becoming irrelevant.

The better number to track might be revenue from memberships, with the floor of what is needed to run the club and thrive.

Isn't more about how many of these can we convert into full /proper memberships in the following seasons?

Other than the first pandemic year in 2020, the club has increased it's membership numbers every year since 2013.  So it's not just a matter of selling more of these gimmicky cheap memberships after the half-way point.

If we managed to achieve the same growth in membership next year, we would reach 75k - which is the number that Pert had in the strategic plan.  I thought it was laughable at the time... and yet we might get there despite the four years being hampered with a global pandemic.

Enormous effort by so many involved!

Strong finish to this Season and we will grow to 70,000+

Well done to all Members. Even 3 game Members are on the Clubs data base now

Outstanding effort by Pert, his team and the Board.

one must not forget the Footy Dept, who now expect to win…

This is fantastic. We need the baby Demons to love the Club as we do

Last year was the first time i saw Kids wearing Melbourne gear around the streets and being proud to do so

Oh boy oh boy RD take your "OD" hat off please. He would get rid of 13,000/15,000 members now you don't want any more !!

My god you are full of it! I have said when we get to 65+ K members I can drop out as I am not needed any longer. I don't care if we have 100k I just won't be one of them.

My 2 girls have always loved the demons & worn the colours with pride.  However, 2021 was something spectacular.  They received random smiles, high fives & "go dees" from everywhere.  Priceless.  If they weren't already demons for life, they certainly are now.  That flag, our super star captain & those glorious colours have them hooked for life.

Couple of times last year i got quite emotional when a little kid said “Go Dees” to me with a MFC Jumper.
Right through school in the 70’s, Iwas the only Demon there. It was a hard road to stay on.
i seriously believe Pert knows exactly how to make this Club into something very special

Sponsors would be enquiring how to jump on.
That’s why tonight’s Game is another important step.
we are Main Stage 1 v 2

sparring before September

Success like life is temporary. What we must enjoy is the now. Live in the moment because everything else is so fragile.

However, this is a time when we should sit back, reflect and take stock of where we are now and where we have got to, and the sheer joy of supporting a successful team without shame, embarrassment, or apology.

There is a belief and an energy within the club, administration, coaches and players that is infectious and also convincing.

It was a few years ago that Goodwin and others started talking about building a new club, developing a strong culture and creating something special. Despite the doubters, it has happened.

65,000 members is the result. Kids in jumpers and adults swathed in Demon gear is the result. The footy world talking about the club with respect rather than derision is the result. Everyone expecting the Demons to win is the result. The way the club handled the May affair and batted away the media scrum is the result. Having champion players is the result. And champions who love the club is the result.

Amazing really.

Yes, we will lose matches but gee what a turnaround. We have come a long way whatever measure you use.

I love the way supporters quickly identify one another in the street with a smile and a “go Dees” comment. And the enthusiasm of the kids in their jumpers and face paint brings a tear to my eye.

I suspect my final words before passing to Demon heaven will be “go Dees.”

Woop woop keep ‘em coming folks.!!!

Great result for Melbourne, well and truly in the top 8 - and growing!

Gee, unbelievable how Carlton how have kept their members despite being terrible for so long...

I thought Hawthorn's tally would be much higher. Fair whether...?

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
