The early season fixture lends itself to some significant game day membership sign ups.

Dogs, Essendon and GWS all in the marquee night time slots.

Assuming  there are no restrictions rnd 1 will be chaotic . Crowd could be 90k plus for the flag unfurling . I think those members who buy general $140 ?Un reserved Membership on the first home game  will buy before hand. Why queue  for the membership while the ground is filling up . . Its not going to be a 35k crowd vs freo and you can get a seat easily.

Still haven't received a 2021 membership pack ordered late September. No response to my emails.

Hoping to see a 2021 members cap. Last one I got was the 2019 one, so I guess they don't do them every year. I'd sure like to get a 2021 cap though!!

I received my membership packs last week, give them a call on Monday.!!

It's madness, at this time of year we're all uptight...in a state of panic; how are we going to afford both a MFC membership and the G.I.Joe with the Kung Fu grip?

@Its Time for Back to Back was speaking with Membership department, and they said we had just passed 40,000 for season 2022.

Plenty ahead of anything previously and well on the way to Perty's 65K!!

Could be a large increase when the final payment of the MCC goes thru for those who have selected MCC/MFC memberships. Was told a year or so back that the last payment triggers numbers/payments to MFC. Someone may be able to confirm this.

40k is a good result for us so far but when you compare to the Pies and Bombers who hit this mark in early November and the Tigers who hit 80k in mid-Dec (😲) it shows how far we still have to go. Hopefully we see a big increase on the back of our flag and and sustained success early in 2022, 65k should be the minimum we are aiming for this year (on track considering we are about 10k ahead of this time last year and we ended up with around 55k).

We just need to win games consistently.
no need to look at other Clubs Numbers.
if we win consistently we shall become big once again

I know we'll end up having a pretty good tally this year but it's quite hard to comprehend that we're pretty much the same numbers as St Kilda who have largely been a disappointment since 2010.

Are they still doing the $1 membership signups though?

To be fair - we have been a disappointment for a lot longer…

I must admit I'm a tad disappointed that we're at 40k for memberships. Especially after premiership winning year, it's hard to fathom that we are on level with St Kilda and Fremantle.

Agree but we seem to have a lot of members who like to sign up at the first game/just prior to the season. I assume the MCC/MFC members are already counted in the tally?

It's hard to fathom that posters think it's hard to fathom that we have similar membership numbers to teams like St Kilda. Really, I don't know how people think sometimes. It's as if they've already forgotten how bad we were and for how long.

From 2006-17 we didn't once play finals and many of those years we were bottom 5 with a couple of wooden spoons and several false dawns.

We made a prelim in 2018 and then undid all that good work by finishing second last the following year.

Two seasons later and we've won our first flag in 57 years.

It takes a decade of competitive football, unearthing stars and playing regular September footy to build a  strong membership base.

Not being a flash in a pan side.

Why is it a suprise?

The MFC has been a consistent disappointment between 1965-2020

That is a lifetime for many people, we need to show consistency now. Fend off challengers and keep winning.

As mentioned above , you wont get  another 30k members off 1 flag .  Alot of supporters may become members . But continued success will only attract new supporters. Those supporters arent  going to be from another club . They will be kids of families of melbourne supporters /members see us win. How many melbourne fans have we lost in last 57 years because  of our lack of premierships . Near enough is not good enough.

Membership $ is what counts most - all clubs have quirks that can inflate numbers. The Saints were handing out free memberships to all kids who joined a certain junior league and sold a heap of $1 membership one year, I think the Pies and Tigers have a large pet membership number. The key is the membership $ return, which from memory - I can't find but haven't looked very hard! - we had a much higher $ return from every member than most other clubs. So 40,000 members for us is significantly better than 40,000 for other clubs.

No that wasn't my expectations at all.

I thought at least starting point was 46k perhaps.

Does anyone know what we were this time last year?

I think we're about 10k ahead of where we usually are at this stage so tracking well for 65k

Well I suppose that puts things in a much better perspective.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
