I looked at the photo's taken during training and they look much better than the video.

His development has been hindered by injuries hoping he gets a good run now.

I hope Max hasn’t put a mozz on him one of the Captains nominated him to win the Rising Star Award and Max is probably the only Captain that knows he exists. Lol.!!

Unfortunately the club can’t list their weight anymore so we may never know who is building body mass and who is trimming down. The AFL are going just a tad too far in some directions but not protecting the most important aspect the head. Quite weird if you ask me.!!

In fact, the AFL's decision is all about the head, or, at least, what goes on inside it. The AFL believes not publishing player weights may be beneficial to some players' mental health. I'm not convinced, but I assume the AFL has had specialist advice which supports this decision.

Hope Blake has a very good game in a Dees win and gets the confidence to go onto a fine career with us.

Really glad to see us push him into the 22. We lucked out with McVee - not everyone progresses like that. So he needs time and what a backline to develop in?!

Probably the inclusion I'm most excited about tonight. Versatility and high ceiling. Glad his moment is finally here.

He was the player I most wanted to see debut this year for the progression of the list.

I wasn't so sure after his pre season form.

Wow what a great debut in a tough game, in a tough role under the pump.

Here are his team rankings in some key stats.

1st intercept possessions 9

5th equal contested possessions 9

6th disposal efficiency 82.4%

6th equal most tackles 3

8th equal most disposals. 17

11th Uncontested possessions 9

12th most metres gained 224

20th game time.  (Take into account Laurie was subbed off, Bowey went off injured, Billings was only the sub)

The kid was very good. I only hope Howes can have an injury free season as he should become a regular first team player.

Great debut, Blake. Well done.

Let's hope he slots in like McVee did last year, got faith he can! 🙏 👌

Hasn’t exactly been banging the door down, but I hope he goes well.

He needs to add another 10kg of muscle to his frame, before he starts impacting games the way we want him to.

what? hes been banging the door down, he was emergency 3 times last year and was getting picked before injury

Would have played last year, but injured his hand on the eve of being selected.

I've listened to both episodes of Benny Gibson's podcast and it has been really good!

Also won the signed Kade Chandler poster so that was also pretty cool 😆

Impressive kid.

I loved how hard he ran to create space and how calm he seems under duress. Good to see some class pushing through the ranks.

I’ll admit had serious doubts on whether he would transition to AFL level footy but in his two games to date has been a worthy addition

Hopefully he continues to build confidence and strength - his disposal efficiency is certainly a real bonus

Has slotted in nicely.

Goes to show the value of being patient with youngsters. They come on at different rates and it looks like blake needed a little longer to get ready for AFL footy.

MFC development philosophy and approach vindicated again.

Wot a ripper, good luck to the young fella.

Great start to his career, keep it up.

Thought this guy might have lacked intensity and was a bit flaky in the contest…. Boy was I wrong.
I am sorry Blake!

PS… can’t wait to apologise to Jeffo.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.

The Demons return to town fresh off a thumping win over the back-to-back wooden spooners, the West Coast Eagles, played in front of a sparse crowd at Marvel Stadium, the same venue that hosted last week's heartbreaking loss.
