He looked pretty happy with our three but didn’t give to much away.!!

So as the reigning Premiers I think we may have done almost as well as when we drafted Kozzy, Dogga and Riv. I find that truly amazing. Time will tell obviously but the recruitment team has serious points on the board and I think they may have just added to their reputation.

I think we’ve managed to find and exploit a loophole, that very well could be closed up now.

By having a father-son that we were confident no one else would bid on, we were able to keep trading out our next pick provided another club wanted it, and thereby creating a new later pick to select WoJu at. Brilliant.

I think it may have been a kick out goal that went the full length of the field, in 2030. Though don't worry, Gawny had his hand in it, ruck coaching Big Maccy to punch it over the line for the opposition behind.

Very pleased we got Howes. Arlo Draper and Zac Taylor were both still available at pick 43 (44). Both had been rated higher than that. Why didn’t we use that pick on one of these players rather than trade it away?

Because Jason Taylor didn't rate them.

It’s a real I hope it doesn’t come back to bite us scenario. I wonder if we go get a rookie (the tall that’s been linked to us) or if we keep it open as a train on spot.

Surely you have blind faith in JT like the rest of us do at this point?

They were tipped to go higher. They didn't.  There is likely a reason for it. JT saw them on the board and said no. That's all I need to know.

It isn't really. These are guys going pick 40 odd, every side had multiple picks to grab them if they wanted. Maybe one of them becomes an absolute jet but it'll be an error of 17 other clubs then.

With the pre-season and rookie drafts on today, I believe we have one live rookie selection and then the potential of Moniz-Wakefield as an extra as a Category B rookie.

Hopefully we can secure Andy that way and use our live rookie selection on one of Casey Voss or Blayne O'Loughlin as another small defender given we've lost some cover there.

Because by acquiring an extra 3rd & 4th round selection, we now have picks/points ammo to trade with whichever club has F/S or NGA selections next season, to drag us back into the 1st round. Made more difficult by NGAs being pushed out to >40 in 2022 though.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
