Garry Lyon was a wonderful MC. Funny, focused and inviting.

Not that focussed. He forgot about the bloke that kicked a bag wearing RDB's famous number.

Agree he was good though.

Hey I recognize these 2 brothers. Used to stand in the outer with Vince and the boys.

G'day Sam.  Yep Bally, Ross, Ollie & Vince from Sassafras!  A few others whose names escape me.  Often half drunk pre-match coming from the Hilton or the Royal before the game had even started....with a six pack under the wing for good measure.

Liver, feet & lungs sure got a workout in those days.  Fun times apart from too many bad losses.  But any feelings were mostly well & truly numbed by half time and completely brain dead at the final siren 😄

You laughed when you typed the word titillating, didn’t you.

Well, I must confess, I had some stumbles when trying to spell it.

That’s what happens when you have to add another eight letters to the three that you’re (probs) all too familiar with.

Like most of the others who attended, I found the entire post replay presentation moving and exciting. I think I’ve watched the replay too many times and couldn’t get overwhelmed again.

When the dwarf threw our captain, that was the signal to start "that ten minutes" and that's when the crowd came to life. It became clear that everyone was waiting for "that ten minutes", and before and after was something of an anticlimax.

The presentation part was something they could not have done the same way on a "pleasant Sunday morning" straight after the GF, and it was fantastic to have former champs, current (non-hungover) players, kids, wives & girlfriends ... we really are the true family club. To have Nathan and Nev included and an integral part of the ceremony was a wonderful way to acknowledge and thank them.

All in all, a fulfilling and rewarding experience. We really did it! Melbourne, premiers! GO DEMONS!!!

Unable to attend, but followed on Facebook all day and it looked like a great day. I hope everyone had a ball.

I will see you all Round 1 at the G.

Oh, and quick question, I saw a photo with Jonesy and Nev, but were they presented in any special way on stage or anything like that?

Edit: saw a couple of posts saying Jonesy and Nev were well involved, so that is good to hear

The club did a fantastic job. Put a fair bit of time and effort (and cash) in and surely got rewarded. Will get a heap of publicity.

I would’ve pushed the envelope and got a couple of players to recreate a couple of goals just for fun but otherwise it was perfect.

There was a solid 5 minute interview between Robertson and Jones, then Nev (2.5 mins each) at "half-time", and they were the penultimate pair to touch the cup (Neitz and Daniher were the last) before Gawn and Goody in the post-game.

They walked the steps of the dais IIRC as part of that, which is hallowed ground of course, even in a re-enactment.

Listened to the Ox on his show this arvo at 5. He said it was a great day and better than he expected. He said he knew it would be a good day but it was great seeing past players & he said he put the sunnies on when Neale went up because he got that emotional.

Am I right in saying that the children that presented the medals were children of past players? because I heard Gaz say Neita's daughter was presenting and I think she gave Spargo his medal.

Also I love this photo of the past players taken on stage.

Now this is a great idea. Too late now of course, but ... Tracc: 30 out on a severe angle in the pocket. Have three goes to re-do that goal. How many go through? Max: have another crack at the goal that wasn't. Can you do it? Harmesy: collect the ball at half forward and stick it on Fritta's chest. Can you do it?

How good has this club become

No goal posts so I’d have used some of Jeff White’s temporary ones and set them up super wide to make it easier!

Could’ve put a couple of past players in doggies jumpers!

It would be great for the club to issue that photo with everyone named. I can’t pick a number of them. No Brian Dixon that I can see. Anyone know how Brian is travelling these days?

I turned to my mum and said "should I get one? Rd 1, Anzac Eve, and Queens Birthday!"

She's like, 60 dollars. I'm a bit tight for money right now.
I'm like, mum, you're not spending anything. And also, this year I bought tickets for three games for you, and it cost $150 all up - and the MFC didn't get a dime (or a membership number) out of it. I think it's a pretty good deal."

"Hmm Ok then!"

It was a great day. However l wish Goody had acknowledged his supporting coaching team.

I'm loving Kate Rofey the more I see of her. Loved the fact she highlighted Kozzie's bump on Hunter.

The after her speach she picked her beer and kept drinking it as she walked back towards the players race whilst posing for selfies with supporters.

She was still doing that about 2 hours later and going strong @ the London Tavern aftermath party.  She's a real knock about gal & a very good sport to boot

Didn't Brian Dixon and Hassa Mann carry the premiership cup together?

Indeed! On occasion, one's baser instincts do contend with the vagaries and complexities of our language.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
