Ben Brown joins Dees’ AFLW coaching panel

Recommended Posts

BB was an assistant coach for the Roos’ AFLW team, he now joins the Dees coaching group as a talls and ruck specialist.
Shows great synergy between the men’s and women’s footy programs operating within a healthy club culture.
Kudos Mr. Brown and MFC!

Great, had a feeling Ben would work with the Dees AFLW sooner or later, especially after watching this interview below. He's probably one of the most prominent current male players in his support of women's footy and he speaks very eloquently about it. Good for everyone involved. Interesting to hear a bit more about his family background and journey to footy as well:

Loved the way he spoke and how supportive he was of the women's game. When we looked at bringing him to the Club the character of the man would have had an enormous part to play. The culture of our Club is being built on an ethos that is not about individuals but about acceptance, character and belief in things that the De Goeys of the world cannot fathom. Good luck to other Clubs trying to "copy" that.

I love what BB brings culturally. Definitely cut from a different cloth to most footballers but I'm sure he brings a lot of new, progressive perspectives to his teammates that you probably wouldn't otherwise get in a football club

I'm going to admit, I knew BBB was a good footballer when at North but couldn't look beyond his run up.

Glad we have him, cos ive learnt more about him and he's a seemingly a terrific bloke too.

Good to see him giving back to the club too and helping develop our women's team in their quest for the flag.

Agree, Ben does seem to be a top shelf human and a bloody good key forward. Anyone got any ideas why North were so reluctant to keep him? It seems very strange.

I don't see getting rid of Ben as a bad move for North. They were/are a long way off and needed to get games into Larkey, Zurhaar etc.

The part that is bewildering is the fact that they lowered his value by making it seem as though he was done. They had every chance to keep their plans under wraps and get maximum trade value for him.

To be fair, they also may have genuinely believed that his injury concerns would be ongoing and that any potential suitor would share that view (post-medical).

The more I find out about BBB, the more guilty I feel about potting him when he played for North. He is an amazingly genuine human being with a profound social conscience.

Not only does he perform this role, he also is a prominent part of the AFL Players for Climate Action advocacy group and regularly devotes his time to the Asylum Seeker Resource Center. I know he regularly mans the phones when they do their yearly telethon.

He's an absolutely quality man, and the type I aspire to be.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
