Trying hard ........... nope. Not feeling it. In our drought, I never got an ounce of anything from other supporters but contempt, or pity bordering on contempt. Saints & all others can go jump.

This is why there is no such thing as a "premiership window" or a "premiership clock". You're either good enough to win it in any given year, or you're not. Last year's performance means diddly this year. And this year's means diddly for next year's.

No they will not win one soon, their trading over the last 3 years has made their list the second oldest list in the AFL, the only thing they will win soon is a another spoon.

I have a friend who is a St Kilda tragic and we talk about the team from time to time and I looked at their season with fresh eyes they had a larger injury list than MFC, the older recruits like Hannebery played very little football in the last 3 season 17 games last year he played 8 of the games in a 17 game season, Frawley 2 games, Ryder 12 games, Jones 13 games, Carlisle 4 games and Kent 7 games.

These are the so called high profile recruits who were going to get them into finals and maybe a premiership, if you cannot get your best cattle on the park and play together building a team cohesion then you have no chance of making finals or premierships.

My theory is that if you can get at 16 of the your best 22 to play most of the season together and the bottom 6 improve then anything is possible provided the team has 20 very good to great players and at least 10 good players on your list with little to no injuries.

We did get this scenario this year and if it continues into the future we will be very hard to beat again for the finals and a premiership.

Anytime I think about St Kilda's history it is that period from late 70s to late 80s which really makes me grind my teeth.

After their 66 triumph St Kilda played in a whole string of finals and another grand final in 71. They had become a serious and competent club again.

But then... I don't even know how to describe it fairly. The fact is the club's culture was destroyed by people, including senior administrators, who were far more interested in the social status and opportunities to get laid which being part of a football club gave them, rather than actually pursuing a premiership.

'St Kilda party boys' was just the tip of an incredibly toxic iceberg.

If "footy boys culture of the 80s" was the tip of the iceberg, St Kilda boys culture would be the iceberg, and then in that visible "St Kilda boys culture" would be the tip of another iceberg that descended all the way to an organised and prolific pedophile ring using the club's junior leagues as it's happy hunting ground.

I really hope today's St Kilda can go through a process as rejuvenating and honorable as our Demons have been through.

I wouldn't even mind if they snagged a premiership in the next five years or so - I'm sure we'll have at least one bad year eventually!

Their best side is still only a 6 to 10 side, most of their injuries are from old players, like Ryder.

After the saints smashed north in a practice game by 90 points they where crowned one of the flag favourites, I was laughing at the time, all the talk before we played them was how much better they are then us, because they smashed north in a practice match, and how bad we where because we lost to  the Bulldogs in a practice match, where most of the side was rested, then we beat them and it was all about how many injuries they have.LOL they are a joke with a old list and that's the joke.

Freo, GWS and GCS are the only clubs without a premiership at this stage.

Melb took only 3/4 years 1900 to be exact. But long gaps like 26 years then 13 years.

After '64 it has been a very long time and was looking a chance I would never see us triumph.

As many of my predictions for this season largely came true I now believe that we are a real possibility to succeed for 6/7 years and collect 1,2,3 or more flags. Our attitude values and culture are by far the best of a Dees team since our glory days and will stand us in good stead with our ability and age definition for flag chances. 

Our team have started out by defining An MCG triumph in front out our fans as a goal and that is going to be a fantastic feat if we can again keep our footy at the current elite level and achieve that prize.
