Luke who?

Dogga the man when he has finished his career and we look back at his efforts in 2021 and that 3rd 1/4 in Sept.

akuna Matata

I think the legend of LJ and the 3rd qtr of the grand final is well and truly overstated

I’m not suggesting he isn’t a talent - he is but the 3rd qtr was all about our midfield he did handball to Clarry for one goal but having watched it several times it was all about Trac , Clarry and Viney imo

may the tales and reputations-made in that 9 minute burst grow wildly as we age. There is no place in this world for pragmatic debate about that small period of wondery.

I think even Weid Kicked 3 goals in that 3rd quarter burst.

Weeds two biggest highlights at the dees - the three goals in the third quarter of the 2021 GF and the fifteen goals he kicked in the 2018 finals.

Can't believe it's taken so long for this to be written.

It’s been said several times throughout the year but was staunchly defended by some on DL that are probably for the first time coming to terms with this.

Hang on, myself @Bring-Back-Powella few others have been quite vocal about this several times throughout the year but have been blasted by others for saying so.

People only now realising this because he's in opposition colours?

Some just cannot pick and choose when they want to wear their rosy red and blue glasses..

Maybe but it highlights his strength and why he’s valued so highly. His ability at ground level for a player that size is rare. We have only seen glimpses of it at this stage

No doubt he hit a hot streak in the 3rd even Gawn acknowledged this.

It was not dissimilar to Stewy Dee’s 5 minute burst in the 3rd quarter of the 2008 Grand Final

Your last chance for luke jackson jumper is on the melbourne auction :)

A certain prolific poster around here even went to the point of putting me on ignore because he wouldn't accept my view that Luke Jackson was NOT the sole reason we won the 2021 grand final.

He was instrumental in that magical minute before 3 quarter time no doubt. However there were a few players who were more influential throughout that third quarter.

Someone like a Bailey Fritsch should've been getting more of the credit than LJ. He was the one that kicked the two goals when we looked dead and buried.

Correct.

That third quarter was won because of 4 players. Trac, Clarry, Viney and Fritta.

The first three went beast mode and the last nailed the goals.

We would have won that game even without Jackson, but we don't win it without the above 4. They were the real heroes.

Viney was involved in each goal in that short period.

Maybe not "buried", but I had basically conceded in my mind, after the Bont goal, that put them 3 goals up half way through the third. Another goal to them then and who knows.

we all see it differently. i never got worried. at the time dogs had biggest lead we still had more scoring shots and had missed some gimmes. we had a record in '21 of finishing strong and we never got out of touch in the gf

too many nervous nellies.

Picked up the Melbourne 2023 calendar and who is in it? LJ.

Those calendars shouldn't be released until trade period finishes.

Certain people on here neglect to see that it was Jackson who got first use of the ball, so Jack viney and Co had room to do their work  during the 3rd Quarter and refuse to give credit.
LJ will always be a Demon Hero

History has primary sources and secondary sources. As time disappears into the rear view mirror the perspectives alter. As Chancey Gardener observed you can’t beat being there.

Before Luke Jackson went into the ruck late in the third quarter. We could not get our hands on the ball enough to do anything effective to respond to the Bullies hold on momentum.

Jackson was the spark that lit the fuse, the pendulum began to swing our way the rest is history.

Post doesn't have enough Angus Brayshaw - without his 3rd quarter there is no flag.

Watched those 7 goals that turned the game from mid 3rd quarter to end of 3rd q and Jackson would be 5th most important, and several of the centre goals Luke was ineffective, but our mids still got it back...

I recommend watching it again. Just for pure enjoyment of it.

Jackson had 1 hitout and 1 goal assist for the entire 3rd quarter.

Again, a very overstated performance by some on here regarding him being that important link..

Max Gawn wouldn’t agree with you there Daz, and you are a very astute Footy observer

Seen it many many times Clarry, and will continue to do so

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
