Im so over it now and while i think its a hard decision for a young bloke and the money is going to be too good to refuse, i cant help but think it was one of a number of things that derailed our season.

Its really disappointing though..  Draftees should be signed to 4 year contracts when drafted.

The media really went after us this year. Had to overplay everything to get clicks, because we as reigning premiers are not a Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond etc who gets enough interest / clicks just out of any kind of standard news story.

So all of the “Goody behavioural issues”, “Bartlett board fighting”, “10-0 - won’t lose a game all year”, “Milky punch”, “Jacko leaving”, “have the wheels fallen off” stories were exaggerated and no doubt a constant distraction and waste of energy for the club/players.

LJ hasn’t said a word, different scenarios

The only difference is we are a better club now and never put Dogga in front of the media.
But I’ll leave it there. Most will understand.

Ruck Rover

Starting 4

Gawn , JACKSON , Oliver , Petracca

Did we even try this once?

this is the issue with Goodwin. Is our “method”, “focus on pressure, defence”, “repeating the basics” that important that we couldn’t even try this for a couple of centre bounces at an appropriate time? (Ie vs Nth, West coast, or when 50 points up against GWS or Bris)

Are you suggesting he will never design rockets? Which could be an issue given he has ambitions of discovering other planets

That is weird.  Blicavs plays ruck/midfielder/relief ruck. It looks just like the role he has at the dees.

Does J Ralph really think if that was what he wanted we wouldn't tweak the role for him.

Feeling eerily similar to the time Howe left us because Collingwood promised him a role change only for him to assume (and thrive in) exactly the same role he played at Melbourne.

If true, having WC as a possibility opens up a whole new ball park. And I’d be telling WC and Freo, two top 10 picks (that way you would get one and another say top 15)

This is actually really good news - saying no preferred WA club which gives us some leverage.

If true, this may be Jacko’s method of looking after us. Rather than the speculated, “I will sign with Melb for 2 years, if Freo don’t offer up the fair picks”

Good news. Go your hardest Freo & WCE - who wants him the most?

Could we turn Fyfe into a forward?

His goal kicking is worse than Maxy

He’s too broken. Also you’d end up paying overs for the name. Give us picks or someone younger/reliable/impactful.

edit: sorry, this was in reply to a separate post re. Fyfe

West Coast in play is great news. Their pick 2 and Jack Darling would be a great deal for us if we could make it happen

Not Darling, Oscar Allen.

Jackson will not nominate a preferred club, and is fielding offers from both Fremantle and West Coast - leaving Melbourne to strike the best deal with one of those clubs.

Massive if true wow

I think it’s a ploy by Jackson’s management to gain leverage; if you don’t agree to a trade, we’ll go to the PSD and he’ll land at the eagles for no return.

No more Grundy in the profile pic? Gone cold on him? Or just pumped about our new gun full fwd Harry Petty?!

Luke not nominating Freo May well be a good thing for us but I’m not so sure. For two reasons. One maybe Freo have gone a bit cold on him giving his recent form. If they are not willing to pay him the big bucks then it’s going to be harder for us to get the big picks.
The second reason is yes WC coast have pick two and pick 20 which in my view is about right for Jackson but that’s nearly all their draft capital this year and they have massive gaps all over their list.  I don’t think it makes sense for where they currently are with their rebuild to waste their picks in Luke.
It would appear Luke had done the right thing by us but let’s see how it pans out.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
