I think if he requested a trade there is a decent possibility Port would grant it, but we'd probably have to give up something like a future second to get him. he's a talented player and a similar style ruckman to Max in my opinion 205cm Giant

Tell them they can have the Weed and we'll take Rozee and Hayes.

Young Ashcroft has nominated for Brisbane under the father/son rule. He was rumoured to go number 1 in the draft.

Does this help Freo to get Brisbane's first round pick which I assume will be around 16-18 by trading a bundle of lesser picks

Cal had him no.1 in this latest phantom draft. Opens Freo's options up a bit for getting a pick in you'd think.

No, it won't help at all. Freo have already traded out their 2nd and 3rd round picks this year, it might have helped them if they had these but unless there's a 3rd party involved then I can't see Brissy's pick going anywhere near them.

What if they get a swag of picks for Lobb?

That'd be a 3rd party that's involved, and really the only way they'd have anything to entice Brisbane with. They could also trade future picks to get back into this years draft or trade other players, but as it stands now they've got nothing to offer Brisbane. We'd be better off sending our 2nd, 3rd and Adelaide's 3rd to Brissy for their 1st.

Under the F/S rule, if another club nominates Ashcroft at their highest pick, does that mean Freo then have match with their highest pick? (Thinking of Luke McDonald a while back)

He sounds like he is worth high pick regardless, but just highlighting that Freo may still need to use their top pick on him if another club goes for him?

You mean Lions.

Each pick has a points value. If North bid on Ashcroft with their pick 1, Brisbane need to find enough points to match that bid (less the 20% discount for father / son selections). I don't see how Brisbane could get both Ashcroft & Fletcher without trading in a bunch of picks given their current selections.

Yes, the Lions, will have to match it - but with points. They will get a discount of 20%. All picks are assigned a value, so for instance if North bid pick 1, the Lions will have to come up with 2,400 points. At the moment they have picks 14 (worth 1,161 points), pick 32 (worth 582), and pick  68 (worth 59 points) of their own and also Port Adelaide's 3rd (pick 43 worth 378 points). So all up they only have 2,180 points at the moment. They can go negative next year, but they also have Fletcher coming through who might get a bid i the early 20s. So they'll be desperate to find more draft picks this year.

West Coast and Gold Coast will be in the box seat for the Lions 1st pick with the best value of 2nd and 3rd rounders.

They can only take as many picks to the draft as list spots they have available can't they? So if they have 4 lists spots available they can only use 4 draft picks. They changed the rules a few years ago to stop teams trading a number 3 pick for example for 5 picks in the 30s.

Gold Coast in particular - they've also got the Pie's and Freo's 2nd rounders and the Pie's 3rd, so a heap of pick's/points to offer up.

I think clubs can apply to the AFL if they have a need for extra points, so they can accumulate extra picks. The AFL just don't want to see teams passing on picks in the first 2 rounds.

Thanks....Didn't appreciate what a relatively low value pick 14 has. As you say they will be desperate for picks.

Seems that Father Son isn't what it used to be. In simple terms you get a pick 1 at round about a pick 5 price.

Then again there is the need for another club to nominate him as Number 1 etc. I see the Dogs took Darcy as a 2 pick last year

At least the Buddy move will keep Jackson out of the spotlight for some time.

Crazy reaction Because we all are posting largely irrelevant stupid and untruthful comments is not Jacko's fault.

Its our right but we are so keen to post our 3c worth it's become a free for all rubbish topic.  We don't  need to read most of the offerings as they are off the mark anyway.

I think we are all up the Creek without a paddle and the thread is giving me the Schitts.

I wouldn't be surprised if West Coast are the one's that have made the God father offer and have been the team he's going to the entire time.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
