I think he is very good but I think Biclavs is very good as well. My major interest in this process is watchingto see that we dont get shafted. An added bonus would be that it means Gus is more likely to sign on again. I actually think Gus is closer to a (once in a ) generational player than Dogga. Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Im backing him in for a Norm Smith. I don't believe the hype either and I don't agree with the purported salary he's either seeking or been offered. I certainly don't believe in the 'generational player' that gets labelled at LJ. Carey was an example of a generational player. At the same age as LJ (21st year) he won a B&F, kicked 46 goals and polled 14 brownlow votes in 1992. In the following year he was captain of the All Aust side, kicked 63 goals and was arguably the best player in the league. Aside from a rising star award (great but Lewis Taylor also won one) and a good but not amazing quarter in a grand final, what has he achieved to be warranting such a big pay day? What trajectory is he on to warrant such a big pay day? Do Freo honestly think LJ is going to have the influence of a Carey or a Buddy over the next 1-4 years? 3 Quote

deebunked 285 Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 He's not gone yet although things are starting to look rather bleak. Mathew Lloyd thinks he might be gone and Lloyd is one of the few in the media who have a clue. Ross Lyon appears almost brain dead and Eddie can't shut up about how the AFL is against them and Ginnivan. Vomitous stuff. If LJ is going for the Freo cash bags i dont want him in the side anymore. Not committed to us ? OK there's the door so leave now.Bring in a young player who will bleed for the club. 1 Quote

D4Life 2,584 Posted July 21, 2022 Posted July 21, 2022 (edited) I want another flag and LJ can help, so whether he stays or goes, want him part of 2022flag. If he goes, it will be for a life changing deal! Simply up to Demons to get best deal possible, and hopefully is two firsts and a decent player! Would be great to get this out of way and also Brayshaw. Ideally both stay, but what will be will be! Edited July 21, 2022 by D4Life Additional point 1 Quote

A lot of money to pay for potential! At least when Buddy, Grundy, Kelly, Petracca, Oliver etc got 7+ year contracts they were in their mid 20's, mature bodied AFL players and with runs on the board whereas Jackson is all potential albeit with a great start and some major medals. History of young players taking mega trade deals when only 20/21 hasn't served them well. HWSNBN renegotiated his contract to take a lower amount when the young guns need to be paid. Never came close to reaching his potential on field. Later injured, recovered then traded to Hawthorn for a very late pick. Retired early for personal reasons. Tom Boyd. Was ostracised by Bulldog team mates. Suffered from depression. Retired from AFL after just a few years with a premiership medal and almost a NSM but disillusioned. I truly hope Jackson has the maturity to deal with the attitude of Freo fans when he has a few poor games and of team mates if they have to take a lower contact to accommodate him. Freo fans will be brutal if he doesn't live up to the hype. Edited July 21, 2022 by CYB 2 1 Quote

It’s an exceptional circumstance where a 20 year old ruck is being offered over $1 mil a year. Therefore it’s not unreasonable to expect the trade details to be similarly exceptional. 1 Quote

But Collingwood are better off by getting rid of Grundy and his contract. Freo are worse by off loading any of Brayshaw, Serong or Young. That's why your Grundy analogy is irrelevant. 1 Quote

The impact (upside/downside) of playing Tomo (as long as it's in form Tomo) vs Petty as the 3rd tall defender will probably be marginal IMV. However, the potential upside of playing Petty forward (if he slots into that role quicky enough)? Reckon many will be coming out after a few matches and all saying "why did we/SG not try this earlier!" My gut feel is both Petty and Smith are both better forwards (natural playing instincts/ability) than they are defenders. More so Petty. That's not to say Petty is an ordinary defender... pretty solid. DD - if you feel Petty is a better forward than defender, then we have a superstar forward on our list. Time will tell I guess. 1 hour ago, dazzledavey36 said: Young's just signed a new 4 year deal. 1 hour ago, The Swimming Dee said: I am aware of that and also believe that Serong has a few years to run.
