Prediction: We will have won the most VFL / AFL premierships by the end of this decade.

Throughout the 175 years our great club has never been a one every 10 years sort of club. More like a 6 in 10 years, then none in 57 sort of deal. As the title says I predict with a fair amount of certainty that we will have won the most VFL / AFL premierships by the end of this decade.

We are on 13 now, Ess and Carl leading with 16. This is doable with a decade of our current boys.

We just need to beat Essendon or Collingwood in a GF and life will be complete.

Wow, way to leave room to move in future years. We have won one in a row to this point. Talk about a two stroke attitude.

Mods: should the MFCSS thread be merged in here?

Oh wait, we'll need that next year at first sign of injury or loss. Best keep them separate.

I've avoided reading the Doggies fans pages lately, to leave them in peace and just enjoy the positive vibes here.

But I couldn't resist a quick look today and this cracked me up:

It is amazing to think we just won our first flag in 57 years and thats enough to draw level with recent powerhouses Hawthorn and Richmond...shows what a dominant force we used to be, lets hope those days have returned and this is the beginning....

One side of me thinks we need to win 5 more Premierships for the 5 decades of missing out.

The other side says, just be humble and take it one season at a time.

In all honesty I am not greedy, but  another Premiership at the MCG would be nice. Just so I can be there with my Dad and enjoy it properly.

However, if I was Simon Goodwin I would be showing the Demons players footage and documentaries about NBA basketball dynasties such as the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls. That would definitely inspire Christian Petracca and the other NBA lovers on our team.

My thoughts exactly.

Was going to say that I'm satisfied with this one but nah,  you dropkicks down there probably deserve to see the team win one live...

just to be a pedant.......

not by the end of the decade........by the middle of the decade

Tempting fate here.

Lets just enjoy going to the G when it’s heaving and knowing we can, and should, beat anyone.

100 wins from the next 100 games gives us the 17th flag by way of a 5peat in 2025. Subscribe.

I always said all I needed was one premiership and I'd be happy but now we need to win one at the G for complete satisfaction - and a bit like Essendon from 1999-2001, we have such a talented group that just the one flag would almost seem like an underachievement!

Just remember that Essendon looked invincible at the end of 2000....

Things can turn quickly.

I’m just stoked to be equal with Hawthorn and Richmond. Always felt rotten having those clubs higher than us on premierships…

Fully agree. Them moving past us was a reminder of how we had stagnated from 2007 onwards, and bloody galling.

One thing this year has taught me is there are no omens, pre game rituals, posts on internet etc that will ever change the course of a game or a clubs destiny. For years I always stood here until we lost or never sat there because we always lose when I sat there etc Ultimately it did not matter where I stood or sat we mostly loss because we were not much chop.

Now this year I have done nothing much different to the era of shytness and we won the flag. It's nothing supernatural that has an effect on the game. It is the fact that we now have probably 8 of the best all time 10 MFC players since 64 playing in the one team, we are as fit as they come and well coached.

No need to stress about  a post tempting fate. It doesnt work like that. It has about as much cred as going to church on a Sunday.

Stress less and live the dream.

I, ah, think you are over thinking my post.

Stress less and just enjoy the footy.

Nah just a general statement about whatever we say here has no bearing on the teams destiny. Thankfully

On a side note I listened to the 3aw youtube replay call. They were mostly pro Footscray callers . The last 30 minutes of greatness was so salty it was beautiful. Especially the first hatrick in a minute when they were going on about missed frees etc.

Magnificent.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
