Lockhart.  Very unlucky. Deserved another year.

Vanders. Yes the pace of the game means he will struggle imo

Bradtke. Never got the chance due to covid reduced cancellation of VFL

Nietschke.  Heartbreaking run of knee injuries.

Jonesy. Thank you. You are a legend.
Nev.  Your intensity and bravery will be remembered.

Question marks. Daw - I’d keep as Ruck depth if possible. Mitch Brown - probably will be delisted imv.

I would have thought that Mitch Brown might have got the chop as well but obviously not as yet? Majak definately gets another year as insurance. Played some great games at Casey.

Is that actually the case though? Bradtke was a category B rookie, so I don't think takes a spot on the list. Nietschke was also only a rookie.

And given that Turner and Declase came in as injury replacements, I'm assuming that we had more players on our list than we would be allowed when Hore & Tomlinson come back off the LTI list. Plus we need to create room for Jordon to go back on the senior list.

I wouldn't be surprised to see more delistings before the first list lodgement date.

Didn't the this all change last year, you now have a total number of players, you need a minimum number on your senior list I think it is 38 and you are allowed a total of 44 excluded Cat B rookie.  It is then up to the club how many senior listed and rookie players they have

Melksham might seek a new club as could Chandler, Baker and Bedford. Whatever is done this year with the list, will also  have next years plans factored in. It is a balancing act, to allow for a certain amount of change each year.

Fantastic for us, we also have the Premiership recruiter.

Really think Vandenberg would suit Gold Coast. He'd add a hard and physical body into their midfield depth, but also protection for their younger mids who are still developing like Rowell and Anderson.

Also thinking there will be more moves today. It's a brutal industry, but even as premiers, we have to keep moving forward.

A lot of change afoot. I didn't expect to see 6 list changes so far, with more on the way with Melksham possibly leaving. Is Baker and M.Brown safe? It'll be a very interesting come trade period. Lots of opposition players will be trying to get to Melbourne now. Finally a destination club!

Not happy with the Lockhart delisting. He's a good player!

Seriously, how brutal is footy at this highest level!? Really feel for these blokes as they watch Gawn & Co swing the Premiership Cup all over Perth.

All the de-listings look fair enough to me. Vanders might get another gig, but personally I think he is just below AFL standard.

Nev has always been a fave of mine, after a long conversation with him at a club family day when he was coming off shoulder surgery. It is difficult to quantify what he has brought to the Dees considering all his off-field stuff. But I LOVED his footy. Tough as old boots, more skilful than many people gave him credit for, a real team player, and played on all the annoying little mosquito forwards trying to do fancy stuff.

I reckon it wasn't just the mosquito forwards...he kept Oscar on the list for several seasons by being 3rd up against big bodies

Mitch Brown survives for one more year. He must have great photos of someone.

An ageing often injured 5th string key forward is a very strange one to keep.

Might make more sense if Melksham moves on but I'm not sure how we'd achieve that.

AFL clubs average 8 list changes every season across the board so 6 is hardly surprising and given our current OOC list i'd suspect 1 or 2 more post trade period as we'll likely want to carry over some picks to invite players to train on over PS

imo likely Baker and Bedford  as they are the most genereric replaceable players remaining on the list that don't have obvious places in the senior side to fill should injuries affect us that wouldn't be able to be filled by other contracted or younger players.

Yeah I saw that and was surprised you have to get it done so quick.
Even for the ones that didn’t play they’d be having an amazing time, what a thud back to earth.

We're new to this because we have never been this deep into Sept

Can anyone explain the rules regarding Turner and Declase. I'm assuming we can offer them Rookie spots and no one else can poach them.

All I know if that any player that is delisted gets free agency for life.  really up to them where they go depending on the offers.

You've got me confused here, I thought JJ was on the Snr List and is contracted to 2023?

That's really my question I guess, can we just offer them a new contract and not delist them?

turner and declase joined on 6 month contracts but are category A rookies the same as daw, mbrown, dsmith etc so are OOC the same as all the others. as our list had those two extras added to it in midseason it just means u need to move on an extra two or draft two less to conteract it at the end of the season

he was demoted under the one-off rules last year with lists cut by two players but then signed a 2yr deal midseason to re-promote him which consumes one of our 3 compulsory draft picks

Are Turner and declasse on the list due to LTI to tomlinson and hore?

Bingo. So factoring in two players on our list were replacing long term injuries and we also had a Category B rookie, we can actually only take in 3 players less than the amount we let go.

So we've currently said goodbye to 6 players, but only opened up 3 spots.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
