Hmm, my memory isn't great, so I'm not sure whether I actually posted that! 

I think he was quite old and said it in seriousness. I don’t really consider someone in their 40’s or 50’s that old anymore 😉

    I feel for you. My uncle (dad’s brother) passed away after the 2021 grand final. He was terminally ill and we all knew it’d be his last grand final. Unlike you we were lucky in that be actually saw it

    I read/heard Max say that it was something to do with a music festival they'd both attended. Something to the effect of "This is so much better than XYZ festival." But that could just as easily have been Max making stuff up. Whatever it was, it certainly tickled Fritta.

    @Satan He is on record saying he was speaking to his son, I think the writer was having a bit of a guess and definitely a neutral. I appreciated his analysis about standing front and center, made me think a bit.

    Today I was talking to a guy who is a warden at a men’s prison. He told me that during the GF the inmates were all confined to their cells coz covid. They all have TVs in their cells and can all hear each other since it’s a big echoic hall type of setup. He said pretty much every inmate was going for the Dogs and a grand total of zero for the Dees. Every time the dogs kicked a goal or took a mark etc. they all banged their metal trays and cheered loudly. When Melb did anything good they’d boo loudly. Then he said, “but towards the end of the third quarter it suddenly became eerily quiet” He said the stunned silence was ‘deafening’ and he found it hilarious that all these big tough loudmouths were reduced to miserable crestfallen dumbstruck sadsacks . 😆

    just watched my second full replay of the GF.. i'd of course done the rewatch skipping the second and start of the 3rd quarters, but am home alone and poured some glenfiddich after dinner and just took it all in.. a few observations:

    - the dogs blatantly threw the ball around 10 times that i saw (we might've done it once?)

    - bont is a great player (obvious)

    - libba really went missing in the second half

    - sparrow was really really good. i remember thinking this at the time, but upon rewatch, he was so calm!

    - although pickett didn't kick a goal, his fingerprints were all over most of them

    - trac and oliver, once they get on top just bullied the dogs and did whatever they wanted

    * i cannot wait to see more of this.

    Referred to something they had done in New York on their previous (2019? ) off season trip and he Said this was much better than that!!  May have been exactly what DEI has posted above. 
    Loved Bailey's wry kind of schoolboy type grin as he revelled in the greatest day of his life on the biggest stage as he became a  Demon ( snd AFL)  legend for life.

    Reckon Bailey has quite a few more goals left in his career and may even be in our top 3 goal kickers  when he retires in about 7/10 years time. 

    Just another beautiful memory of the many goals that made our win so memorable.

    For anyone who likes this kind of stuff, I'm always interested seeing people from overseas react to our game, especially when they're watching us win the flag 😁

     

    Two of my favourite parts "number 5 is a baller" and at the end "they just suplexed them and stomped on them"

    Probs many of them were. But they were all going for the Dogs for a different reason: According to this warden the inmates have to address the wardens as ‘Sir’ but ‘Boss’ is also acceptable. Of course, when the wardens are out of earshot they’re referred to as ‘Dogs.’ If an inmate is heard calling a warden ‘Dog’ they’ll be (unofficially) punished. Therefore, during the GF they made the most of the opportunity to yell out ‘Dogs!’ as much as they wanted. It was a message to the wardens. 
    This particular warden doesn’t go for either side but was happy for the Dees to get back in the lead since it denied the inmates a reason to keep screaming out ‘Dogs!’ as loudly and aggressively as poss.
    Really interesting insight into prison life. 😬

    Over the years and during those dark times when player after player would leave I'd think gee it would be great to win a premiership just to stick it up all those that walked out and all the ones that stayed loyal would be rewarded. I get now why they did because of culture, always getting thrashed and some people that worked at the club, ie coaches or other staff, but I look at someone like Howe and can't help but have a chuckle. 

    Yes he left to go to the club he barracked for as a kid and was told he'd play forward which obviously didn't work out, but to see our boys get a medal and his season resulting in his coach and president both leaving and his club under scrutiny for other reasons and not playing finals made me smile. Mind you I'm rapt to have May and Lever down back

    I'd have thought they'd have more opportunities to call the dogs (ie warders) bad names if they had barracked for Melbourne.  Maybe says something about why they ended up in jail.

    I love this guy! He had me at “my man kicks a goal” about Tracc’s first goal. And he actually says, “Number five for the Dees is a baller.” He used the term “the Dees” 😂

    And even he knew the not-paid Maxy goal was a goal. 😆

    Maybe the prison was just out past Footscray way.

    Played a brilliant "team" game. The pressure he applied was brilliant. Numskulls at 7 hardly commented on his  pressure.

    Ravenhall Correctional Centre. It’s in a (newish) suburb called Ravenhall which abuts St. Albans, which means the loved ones of prisoners don’t have to travel far for visits. 😁

      Round 11, the second week of The Sir Doug Nicholls Round, kicks off on Thursday night with the Cats hosting the Bulldogs at Kardinia Park. Geelong will be looking to to continue their decade long dominance over the Bulldogs, while the Dogs aim to take another big scalp as they surge up the ladder. On Friday night it's he Dreamtime at the 'G clash between Essendon and Richmond. The Bombers will want to avoid another embarrassing performance against a lowly side whilst the Tigers will be keen to avenge a disappointing loss to the Kangaroos. Saturday footy kicks off as the Blues face the Giants in a pivotal clash for both clubs. Carlton need to turn around their up and down season while GWS will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a September threat. At twilight sees the Hawks taking on the Lions at the G. Hawthorn need to cement themselves in the Top 4 but they’ll need to be at their best to challenge a Brisbane side eager to respond after last week’s crushing loss to the Dees on their home turf. The first of the Saturday night double headers opens with North Melbourne up against the high-flying Magpies. The Roos will need a near-perfect performance to trouble a Collingwood side sitting atop the ladder.

Now, they find themselves outside of finals contention as the season approaches the halfway mark. The winner this week will remain in contact with the leading pack, while the loser may well find itself on a precipice, staring into the abyss. The current season has presented numerous challenges for most clubs, particularly those positioned in the middle tier. The Essendon experience in suffering a significant 91-point loss to the Bulldogs, just one week after defeating the Swans, may not be typical, but it illustrates the unpredictability of outcomes under the league’s present set up.

He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

      The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
