For those who saw Goodwin doing the ‘devil horn’ sign from the bench on Friday night, watch this video! There’s value in everybody 🤘🏻

powerful powerful stuff @ctm - thanks for making us aware of the how significant the subtle can be.

Brilliant!  Thanks!

Note sure it has anything to do with that video, its a completely different sign. Ive seen Goody do it before and Ive got a suspicion hes done it towards the end of quarters and obviously a signal/sign of some sort to the players id say tactical.

Either way I cant wait until a full MCG give the team the signal after a goal or coming off after a win

It’s quite obviously a signal for some sort of onfield change or tactic. Same as they do in basketball when calling the play.

I somehow doubt he’s interrupting players in the middle of a prelim just to let them know he cares.

The players call it demon time. It means we slow the game down and play keepings off. Harmes does it often on field later in quarters.

thought it was a hang over from his time singing for King Parrot

I'm in!

Thanks CTM my wife and I both commented when we saw Goody give the sign / signal and wondered what it signified. Judging by the way the players love Goody I think it significant and all players recognise the meaning.💛❤️💙

I heard Garry and Tim interview this guy on their show a couple of weeks back: absolutely fantastic.

I’m thinking more nWo ‘Too Sweet’ wolf head when I see this gesture.

It's the set up, is it not? This is the play directly after the hand signal...

two at the front of stoppages

To me it actually looks like the horns formation. Cover offensive and defensive side of the contest and then cover the wing exit with Langdon, but leave enough space at the wing exit if we win it to run out of there. Conversely, Langdon would know to cover this dangerous space at the back of the stoppage. Certainly for a rushed kicked or slap into that space.

But the horns could also signify the defensive set up across half back, because if you look at the 5 match ups there, they kind of look like horns.

Haha, am I reaching?

it comes from team rampage in the aflx, cripps and fritsch have both done it as a celebrating and then harmes got on board and its being used to signify slow play or red time when we want to see out the quarter before the siren without conceding again. may and lever do it alot ball in hand as obviously they dictate the speed of the ball on the last line of defence

Then I think it must mean "c'mon guys be charitable and give a couple of goals before half time to get their hopes up before we smash them in the 2nd half"

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
