Great quarter Melbourne. I'm so proud right now of the effort so far

Poor Maysy…. 😭

That was exactly the first quarter we needed. May's injury is certainly frustrating but I'm confident that Petty can restrict Hawkins if he stays on him for the rest of the game.

Keep it up boys. Game will be over at half time if we can.

Sub May out now. Not worth the risk if he can come back in 2 weeks.

ripper 1st quarter. just need to keep our foot to their throat. hope May is ok

Well if you didn't hate Tom Hawkins before you certainly do now.

So is may hammy confirmed

My take, he is either gone for more than 2, or it ain’t too bad, just needs a bit of good stretching like when I semi did mine (felt like an electric shock, but wasn’t too bad, then stretched it out and was ok).

No way if it was touch and go would we risk him further in the game. Him running is a good sign

Qtr time update from the ground:

Top of Optus Stadium lit up in blue and red, maybe because officially the home team? Whatever the reason, loving it.

Geez love the confidence.

Hawk/Cameron could catch fire. Try him on one leg if you need to in my view.

As long as Geelong don't kick 9 in a row we should be able to hold on from here in the worst case. This is a game winning lead at quarter time.

Would be gutted if we make the Grand Final and May can't play in it.

Dawn kicked a goal after the siren . . . Dawn won the coin toss.

It didn't feel like the 1st quarter of Prelim, more like the 5th quarter of Rd 23, didn't it?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
