This was from Tom Morris?

I think the media are spitballing until Cerra comes out and nominates.

I must admit I trust the club whole heartedly but this is going to be a tough one to get done. Carlton have to be the logical option for Cerra.

Wait till after The GF….

Agree.

The key to this puzzle is Cerra nominating a club.

But let's be honest, if he doesn't nominate us then it's not going to happen

So Sam petrevski seton now wants a trade back to WA, watch all the Carlton nuffies say straight swap for cerra

He's requested a trade to the Eagles apparently

Pick 105 will get it done. Lucky a club still wants him.

I would have thought that if Cerra wanted to go to Carlton he would have nominated them by now. Or am I being too logical

During last year’s trade and draft period and even on the night of the draft itself, I was gobsmacked by the audacity of some of the trading. There are lots of things that can happen that we have little or no chance of predicting at this point in time.

Exactly, and that's why it's nonsensical, let alone poor journalism, for Ralph to suggest we can't get a trade done.

The fact Cerra hasn't made a decision on which club, is evidence we're well and truly in the mix. he's known he was leaving all year.

Who would want to go to Carlton they turn good players into rubbish it's their culture. Walsh is the only exception to the rule but give him time I'm sure Carlton will drag him down to under performing as I said it's their culture. Cerra is ours. The only question is who along with our future first round will be swapped for him. Weid is a certainty maybe Jordon maybe Sparrow?

His opinion on the Pickett future pick swap, has already proven he has little imagination for this kind of stuff.

Could easily be waiting on Carlton coach?

Just like we did? Things do change, I think landing Cook is as important to Carlton as getting Jackson was for us. Great get, as important (if not moreso) than the new coach appointment.

Gee you talk a bit of sense here Dwight, which is strange for this site.. My exact thoughts. If he wanted to go to the blues he would have come out by now and announced same. This also leads me to think we are a big chance and he will wait until we WIN the GF. I have trust in our back office to get it done some how.

Dr Gonzo we did not get Jacko. The AFL sent him to us to sort our mess out. Thank goodness he did.

Dazzle is right though, would be silly to nominate a club before knowing who the coach is. Might just be waiting on that before announcing.

I won't lose sleep over it if we miss him, would be a good get sure but we can do without him.

he would very much be guided by his management before making such a declaration

it would certainly be in his manager's interests to extract the best financial deal, so why not create a bit of competition and delay to pump up his deal

nothing to be gained by him in showing his hand at this early time

Why would he wait on a coach. The coach will be no good who ever it is. Carlton will be rebuilding for another 20 years they had their chance to rebuild properly but they chose Martin, Williams and Saad. I'd be amazed if Cerra wanted to waste his career at Carltank.

well we will just have to wait at least until after the gf

let's just hope the mfc has worked out a process to satisfy everyone

Cerra has pretty much openly stated that he just wants to get home to Victoria and also wants Freo compensated well.

Choosing Carlton isn't exactly the worse case scenario. They've recruited a HIGHLY successful person in Brian Cook and it seems Voss is their man to coach.

Their list isn't exactly bad as some are making out to be. You've got a 10 year key forward in Harry McKay you can build around and then Sam Walsh who's an absolute star in the making. Weitering also is a future All Australian full back and adding Cerra makes them extra competitive. They still need to add a few depth which they have already with Hewett who imo is a better pick up then Saad and Williams purely on the fact he's come from an extremely well drilled culture and we'll give them great two way running in their midfield.

From our perspective I simply cannot see how we please a Fremantle due to their high demand. Jackson and Brayshaw are completely off limits so that just needs to be ruled out.

If Cerra wants a smooth transition home then Cerra for Carltons pick 6 makes sense in a way.

This coming from someone who absolutes hates Carlton to the bone. So it actually pains me to write all that.

Well said.

So many people are unaware or ignorant of the things that the AFL did under Andy Demetriou to save us from extinction.

We were an absolute embarrassment. A rabble. Broke, with a terrible playing list and clueless "leaders" in the boardroom and in the footy department.

The AFL decided that we needed saving and sent Jackson in. They gave the subtle nudge to Roos to join us and also helped us pay our own "tanking" fines.

We owe Demetriou a huge debt of gratitude.

Carltank have been a graveyard for "highly successful people" for 25 years. Cook's legacy is assured - he is topping up his super now.

Malcolm Blight at St Kilda vibes.

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
