Our NGA academy prospect who is quietly going about his business in the NT has been invited up to the AFL national draft combine.

Taj Woewodin didn't get an invite.

Does it mean that Taj will or will not have a chance of getting drafted if he is not invited to an event called the combine?

So to get an invite to the national combine you need a total of 5 AFL clubs to nominate interest.

It's no harm whatsoever in Taj not getting an invite. So many gun players have carved our significant AFL careers by not attending the draft combine.

He'll most likely attend the state combined.

Do you have any info on Moniz-Wakefield dazzle? Height, weight, skillset etc... haven't heard much commentary about him at all to the point I wasn't sure if he was eligible for us this year or next.

Maybe the other clubs realise he'll be going to Melbourne as a father-son so no point in inviting him.

No not really, and it doesn't work that way.

Nick Daicos got an invite when he's pretty much already with Collingwood already.

It's just mean Taj hasn't got that much interest really.

He's a midfielder who plays wing and half back. Started playing senior football in the NTFL in Darwin for Waratahs as a 16 year old and recieved a rising star nomination.

He made the Allies state squad for this year but obviously that's been impacted by Covid.

I haven't obviously seen his play in the flesh but one of the boys I work with through the Murray Bushrangers and a family friend of ours in Ryan Eyres was also selected in the Allies squad with him so I might hit him up for some information.

theres state combines to follow which is for players nominated by at least 3 clubs. what time of player is AMW? could it spell the end of chandler/bedford? jettas no.39 should be washed and ready when he steps onto the list in 2022, what size is he?

Made the official list in March, but we haven't heard anything about him and several of his squad lists call him an NT Thunder Academy player and don't mention Melbourne.

Maybe just an oversight but I do find it strange Cal Twomey would have JT on his podcast and ask about Mac Andrew, Taj Woey and not this guy as well.

Andy is up on the Herald Sun draft guide (top 70 prospects, but no Taj, bah!).

Cant copy and paste, but the gist is 180cm, 73kg. Wingman/Outside mid - smooth mover and uses ball well. break away speed, good agility, good ball user, good around stoppages and spreads to find space. Played against men for the last couple of years.

Andy Moniz-Wakefield Midfielder

“Age: 26/10/2003
Weight: 73kg
Height: 180cm
Club: NT Thunder/Allies

Stats
2021 NAB League (2 games)
121 ranking points, 23 disposals, 5.5 marks, 5.5 clearances

A wingman or outside midfielder, Moniz-Wakefield is a smooth mover and uses the ball well. He was one of the standouts for NT Thunder in the two NAB League games they played this year, after making his senior NTFL debut for Nightcliff as a 16-year-old in the 2020-21 season. Moniz-Wakefield possesses breakaway speed, good agility and uses the ball well. He is clever around stoppage situations and works hard to find space. Moniz-Wakefield is a member of Melbourne’s Next Generation Academy”.

Just to mindfork the opposition, I pray that one day we pick up a player called Joffrey Rothschild-Baillieu III; recruited out of Ormond Amateurs via Brighton Grammar.

Played well. Neat kick. Runs forward very quickly. Can’t say he is running that hard in defence. Stands away from the contest and drives it forward with his good kicking skills. Been unlucky not to have 10 more disposals as he has often been burnt.

    THE CAVALRY ARRIVES by Megg

The injury plague which has beset the Demons 2024 campaign is finally starting to dissipate and with consecutive wins over GWS Giants and a 2-point nail-biter in Adelade, a sense of optimism is rising.  Some commentators are now asking whether the Dees can make finals? A huge surprise with team selection this week when it was announced that champs Olivia Purcell, Paxy Paxman and Eden Zanker would play.   Hallelujah!  The cavalry has arrived. St Kilda missed the finals last season on pe

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
