What did he say, he couldn’t possibly have complained about the 50m penalty…

No he was actually pretty philosophical and even mentioned the deliberate against Gus just before being strange.  Pretty fair & classy overall i thought.

Now that my heart rate is below 160 bpm, have typed effusively into Demonland, have marched around my house with arms in the air as if I kicked the winning goal, and the family have gone to bed - I have 2 confessions to make:

1. At 3/4 time I said to my oldest son (21 yo) that the 2021 Dees can kick 6 goals to 0 in a quarter but I couldn't see it happening.

2. I couldn't watch Max kick for goal. I just couldn't.

Sitting here at my laptop right now, I feel really good, and can't wait for the finals to start.

P.S. - is it wrong that I would like to see a picture of Selwood's face after Max kicked the goal?

Talking of Selwood....what the hec was the game stopped for when he went off the ground with about 7 min to go?? I saw no blood and thats about the only reason the ump stops a game for a player to come off.

Yep

Haven't seen one of those paid in a while, strange one

But also that the deliberate OOB was also a strange one

Hence it was a "comedy of errors"

I actually thought the 50m was pretty clear cut, it was out by 2.5m when he fisted it 12 rows back and the umpire had called the out of bounds. I’ll admit I didn’t see what it was for at the time but when I rewatched it I felt it was very obvious.

The deliberate was just so unfathomable, it was a hack kick forward and any footy person would tell you we’d want it kept in. It was just as bad as the Clarry one given earlier in the night. He has nothing to complain about with the umpires, doesn’t stop him though.

The positive will always outweigh the negative after a win like that.

But I was cursing our leaders (particularly May and Gawn at half time with Hawkins and Stanley dominant) but to their credit they came good.

I hope TMac can come good. Salem featured in many people's votes but I think he is carrying something or is in self preservation mode too often.

Special mention to Viney and Smith. They were good for four quarters.

I think to be fair to Chris Scott the money they have invested in the Umpires Academy has been really really well spent and his team would have won if they had not run out of puff and had been able to cope with sustained pressure.

A few personnel changes and they should do well in the finals

Randomly just getting all the feels for Steven May.

He currently is third on the list of most games by current players who are yet to play in a final, with 168.

Next week he gets to come off that list.

Great game, in case that needs saying again…. One for the ages. The team has come good. Even if we don’t win the cup, the club is in good hands if it can perform like that. Bound to take one home in this era.

OK, now I've collected myself. I was never going to leave it at 'I'm now a believer' as I was in the @P-man camp in that I really didn't know what to say.

What an unbelievable win.

I will likely get a noise complaint from the neighbours in the next few days for how much I went off when Maxy dobbed the match winner, but I don't give a toss. 😄

While some might say 'The gameday thread was awful... Hang your heads..', you couldn't really say that their pessimism wasn't deserved.

Call me Mark Neeld, but I didn't see that coming! That was absolutely from the clouds stuff. 😃

The most reassuring thing about that was that it showed that while we can strangle teams, we can STILL also turn it on when we want to. It's not the style of game we should be aspiring to as I much prefer consistent 4 quarter efforts rather than streaky football. But that being said, like our win against the Lions, knowing if we need to go Showtime, we can do that as well is amazingly reassuring.

Huge hats off to the blokes who should and did lead us to the win: Maxy, Clarry, Tracc and Lever. The latter to me was a huge factor in that game, especially as May probably did lower his colors somewhat to Hawkins. He just kept playing his game, even when they started getting on top.

Maxy has been an absolutely inspired choice as captain, as quite frankly, he is what NONE of us would have chosen as a captain in 2012 even if we knew about how we would turn his career around post 2015. I can remember around the time of Bails' sacking and Neeld's ascension that some were saying we needed a contested ball, teetotal, intensity monster who'd had his sense of humor gland removed. Maxy is far from that, but he shows the genuine care for his teammates with an intensity for when it matters. He stepped up tonight as Dogga was somewhat quiet and was absolutely gargantuan.

Clarry has had as good a games this year, but the difference tonight can be summed up in one word: goals. He didn't have any set shots (something he'll still need to work on), but the fact he was able to hit the scoreboard was invaluable. Plus as Maxy said in that interview, his will to win is unbelievable. He and Jack Viney are cut from the same cloth in that regard, but Clarry clearly has a lot more tricks than Jack. There's just something special about him.

Good luck me getting sleep now. I'm still buzzing. I didn't shed a tear when we won as I was still crapping my pants that Maxy might have missed that goal, and then throwing myself crazily around like Richard (why can't I just type the bloke's actual stage name in?) Valentine in the 'Dance Commander' video by Electric Six. On second viewing, I must admit my eyes got a bit moist.

I'm not crying... YOU ARE CRYING! :jakovich:

Had to write Richard instead of the usual truncated version of that name. What do you actually do when someone with that name is referenced on here?

God seeing the above posts of the scoreboard dating back to the second worst loss in AFL history, which resulted in the sacking of Dean Bailey, RIP. It made me realise how much recent history we've had at this ground. From Gawn's coming out party and huge upset win down there in 2014. The horrible loss in Roos' last game, the more recent loss after the siren when Touhy kicked it after the siren, and now this..... Incredible.

So next week surely we choose Adelaide to play at. No way would we choose the Gabba or metricon as that would give brisbane an advantage. Tassie isn't great for us either.

Lets play at Casey!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
