I'm a little bit interested in why the Dogs have been deserted by the umps the last 3 weeks  after 6 years of nothing but love. I did post a few weeks back that I thought the AFL wanted Brisbane and Port in the top 4. Looks like it may just happen, but at the time I thought it was us that was being assisted out.

Good question. I think your hypothesis above has legs.

Above I suggested the hypothesis in bold:

I’ve watched bits and pieces of the Dogs games the last two weeks, and one thing I noticed is that they didn’t seem to be getting a helping hand from the umpires like they did in the game against us. And it makes a big difference.

Today, for example, the free kick count was 23-15 in favour of Port. And last week it was 14-11 in favour of the Hawks. Our game was 25-11 to them!

Perhaps the umpires have noticed the talk about their huge free kick advantage and are trying to balance it out (a little) before season ends.

They’re other reasons why they’re down and losing, but I think this has contributed.

And LD has hypothesised that it relates to us:

My mfcss is playing up with the idea of the umps stiffing the dogs so as to us playing port.

Must win tonight.

In some ways we can test these hypotheses next week. If the umpires revert to favouring the dogs then it’s an indication that it’s either hypothesis 1 or 3. That they wanted another interstate team in the top 4 and not that they were trying to correct their biased umpiring earlier in the year. 😆

This is a good game to watch but not much defending going on. It's not finals footy

Might need another decimal point on that percentage graphic in the corner of the screen

Leaving aside the question of matchups, Roffey and Pert will be pretty chuffed to get that minor premiership cash injection into the club and it's facilities. What is it like 600-800k or so?

Amazing how many times Brisbane have been 4th and then dropped back to 5th today. Currently 3 points adrift of the double chance.

This must be torture for the Dogs fans 😂

The Brisbane benevolent game..

What a joke..

Remines me of watching the live ladder in the last round back in 2017.

Yep .... thinking the same ... that match was W.Coast v Adelaide. Adelaide were a much better side (finished top of ladder?), but I think they rested players for that match.

I think Bulldogs will miss out on 4th in the same way that we missed out on 8th that year. Can't rely on other teams!!!

gawd, those awful memories of thinking jake lever's first action as a demon was failing to clear d50 with a rushed kick, giving it straight to liam ryan, who slotted it out and pushed us out of finals...

Go eagles. That was hard to type but I would rather play the dogs or port than bears.

Would prefer to play finals locked in Perth where the WCE didn't make the 8...

we dont want them to win just get within 20 points.

Considering West Coast don’t like travelling and have a lot out this is a pretty good effort.

Gee their four goals away from 4th and in danger of maybe losing. The team in 8th would be worried as well.

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
