Definitely a Sunday. We’ve had our 5 day break leading into the Port game and the AFLPA are very strong on only one 5 day break per team this season.
It will probably be a 3:20pm at the MCG given we don’t fly home until tomorrow, and then Saturday night prime time vs Geelong in the last round.

Fair to say there will not be any crowds allowed in before finals 😭

IMO, lock down would need to end this Thursday evening as planned, if we're any hope of having a crowd during week 1 finals.

Judging on post lock down 4 and 5, the government likes to have 2 full weekends of no crowds (post lock down), and then a crowd on the third weekend.

For instance we came out of lockdown a few days before round 13 (Q'Bday weekend) and crowds were back round 15.

If we come out of lockdown on Thursday week, crowds could be back semi final weekend.

Finals are different tho. I think the Victorian government is desperate not to lose the finals two years in a row. We’ve already lost so many big events. It’s ripping the soul out of our city.
But you’re probably right and also no chance lockdown ends on Thursday. It’s always 14 days. Always. I dunno why they give us false hope.

Goodwin in his presser said they fly home tonight after the game - although that's as good as tomorrow! In recovery terms, maybe worse...

The worst part about a 7 day lockdown is the first 3 weeks

The red-eye? And arrive at 6 in the morning?

Awful for recovery if true

Well that’s ridiculous. AFL can’t afford to fund another night in a hotel? Or are WA such bitter [censored] they’re demanding we leave immediately?

There is a third possibility.  Maybe it was our choice to fly out after the game.

Why would we choose to fly on the red eye? That is a flight only taken by people who want to save money 😂

Surprised by this, I thought leaving Melbourne in WA for a couple of weeks was a real chance.  I reckon on Saturday this was odds on with 29 cases but now it seems the latest spread seems to be semi controlled.  Still think we will be in lockdown till mid/late next week

Because when they have lock downs they always find a bunch of cases that were infectious in the community.

I think they go short so that if it is a good outcome they can open back up again.

Off topic slightly but how about Hawthorn's fixture this year.

In a COVID disrupted year, they'll get to the end of the year having only played three games away from the MCG, Marvel and UTAS (their other home). And of those three, one was an "away" game vs Gold Coast at the SCG.

So they'll only have played two games all year in true foreign territory.

Excellent point. Hopefully  they're sent to all points of the compass next year!

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
