Didn't you say last week we were "gone"?

Yes I did so you can throw as much nud as you like but I did not comprehend how poor GC are. About 7 or 8 of their best 22 missing and having their homegame moved down here.

So do you expect us to lose the last three games?

This post game thread is as neurotic as it gets.

Always looking for negative's to confirm the long held belief that 'we're never good enough', so that when we inevitability lose (and we will, just a matter of pre or post grand final) we can go into self protection and fall back on 'I told you so?

No I expect us to win the next 2. Kardinia park probably not. Our next 2 opponents are not very good sides anyway.

That was the win that we had to have, pressure was ginormous, ball movement was back to our team first best, no passengers a few errors but you couldn’t fault their endeavours, stress free watching, all is good with the footy world again, despite the weird happenings yesterday, the boys came through for us. Can’t complain about that.??

well done Dee’s and AFL.??

Erm we just did and won by 98 (NINETY EIGHT) points.

Could have thrown me in the guts today for a similar result. Never let winning paper over the cracks.

Ooooh the veil of negativity is crushing me!

isnt footy meant to enjoyable? We are two points off first place and just won by 98points after a disrupted lead up.

if you can’t enjoy this, why bother?

Summed it up beautifully. The boys responded after some tough negative press.

It turned out to be more like a training run. But it'll instill great confidence that when we bring max pressure most teams will circum to the inevitable.

A bit empty after the game. I don't like big margin wins. Perhaps I am just not used to it.

I emotionally switched off in the third.

We were not going to drop this one, Suns had no fight!

Back-line controlled it.

Forward-line creating scoring opportunities and holding the ball in their area.

Mids giving so much supply and the defensive structure bamboozled 'em.

Bowey looked a good fit, very clean, good decision, reads the play well, no nerves obvious.

Can't see Tmac getting on the plane to Perth. Last thing a sore back needs is more sitting and having activity restricted. Weids may get another look.

Worried about complacency, we can't bring that last quarter to Perth. Brisbane didn't start playing till the third after a game against insipid Suns. I am glad we have been playing the first quarters well of late. Hate to see us give the Westcoast a good start at their home.

A week isolated together could gell us, and set us for a good run into the finals series.

Winning form is contagious, Don't want to see us up one week then down another. Had too much of that over the past decades. Time to break out and claim this as our season.

C'mon Dees, work together, play clean smart footy.

Job done. Very happy with the win we were good and relentless with pressure. Loved the way way sped up the game at times and that is when I feel we are at our best when we hit teams on the counter. We brought our pressure that we know we can bring and had it for 4 quarters. It was very pleasing to see us still chasing and smothering late in quarters. With our system and style this is simply a bare minimum from here on out.

Oliver take a bow. I actually liked the move from Dew to send Swallow to him in the second half to give Clarry some practice with a tag! Trac was excellent, really liked the game of Jayden Hunt thought he was very clean and provided great run through the middle. ANB, Spargo and Pickett all doing their hard work as well as Brown. A lot of unnoticed acts of hard work will happen in our forward line but they are so important.

I think a lot of us felt a little deflated not quite getting the 100+ just because there’s been so few in he last 20 years but I don’t think anyone is disappointed. Got it done against a really unimpressive Gold Coast who really were rubbish. Back to business next week. Bit nervous that West Coast turned it up against Collingwood, it has all the makings of a backlash next week but if we do what we’re meant to we will get the W.

Good job Dees. Rest, rinse, repeat.

Sure, but they didn’t have to endure a 7 hour round trip.  No wonder Tommy Mc did his back.  Hope they don’t take him to Perth which can only aggravate it. Give Weed another chance.

I love a nice Brandy Old. I may be a philistine but I like it with chocolate licorice. Bought a nice packet of Daryl Lea bullets today so I think I will enjoy a lovely Hennessey XO with those to celebrate later tonight.  I'll save the Cognac for finals!!!

Look what happens when you appply forward pressure.

A good result against a pizz weak opposition so it is hard to take anything from the game.

That's just so far from the truth. Gold Coast challenged the bulldogs until the end and managed to knock off Sydney, Richmond and GWS, so I don't think they're as bad as you're suggesting. I think there's plenty to take out of our win today.

It was a training run.
Was it fun? Yes. Was it good to get touch and confidence back into Jackson and Rivers? Yes. Was it good for Bowey? Yes. Was it nice to see BB starting to show his best? Yes.
Does this mean anything in the context of the season outside the 4 points? No.
It was not a competitive hit out today. We were fantastic and credit to us for going hard for the whole game even if our goal kicking dropped off totally in the last quarter. But we won’t play a worse team this year.

I'd like to see that level of sustained pressure from now until the end of the season including finals.

Bring that pressure and we are in with a strong chance.

How was Bowery trying to take mark of the year in his first game! Fair effort too. Thought he looked really comfortable, albeit the game didn’t have normal levels of pace and pressure.

Jaded we made them the worst team that we will play.!!!

Great effort today.

Most of us didnt know what would happen.

A few of asked for am emphatic win and we got it.

The downside was Tmacs back knock and Im not sure now if we can play both Harmes and Viney in the same team.

Maybe Jordan or Jones in for one of them.

Great to see Bb do what he can and Dogga back into career best form.

Strong effort from Nibler  and Rivers to get back to his almost best and of course Trac and Oliver were superb.

Not just a much needed win.......... a win by almost 100. A long time coming,

It was great to have Bowey's clean disposal albeit under sfa pressure

I thought there was pressure on him. Some of his disposal were very quick and needed to be, as opponents were right on his tail. Harmes and Viney could learn something. A smart player who seems to know were the other players are. I think other first gamers would get caught with the ball, as they struggle to adjust to the pace of AFL. Great instincts, has a good step to find space and lifts his eyes to find team-mates.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
