I don't agree.

Just because he is 200cm doesn't mean he has to play first ruck. After one or two pre-seasons he could be played in a number of roles. He could be a great intercept defender given his pace and athleticism. He could do a Jackson and play as a third tall and ruck part-time in the forward 50.

He could even make a great full back or full forward.

Ultimately, like Jackson he will ruck at times. He is a very good basketballer which seems to be a good trait for ruckmen.

While supporters tend to pigeonhole players into positions, AFL coaches are less inclined to do so. This three or four years waiting is nonsense.

Sheesh well called mate.

I wonder how Mac would go in our forward line.

Still annoyed about the AFL's NGA backflip. Does Mac have any more younger brothers!?

Is Riak in our NGA though? He has to be, right?

Anyone here still doubt the ability of Mac Andrew?

The kid is a star already.

Expect a formal apology from the AFL.  They had a rule that gifted Jamara to the bulldogs.  Then changes it and Mac Andrew gets drafted by the Suns. Dees miss out.  Now they change the NGA rule back !!! wtf.  They are a joke.  Bring on Tarion Ah-mu.

Sorry I’m a bit late to the party here but I was at PFS on Saturday afternoon to watch the Demons vs Suns and it was the first time that Andrew and JVR played on the same ground in an AFL game.

I get it that form varies from game to game and Andrew has a big night the week before but I came away happy. Happy for us that we got a player who will be one of our greats in the forward line for hopefully, many years to come. I’m also happy for the Suns that they have a different type of Cat who I think will play some good football for them although he might never justify being picked in his draft year immediately after Nick Daicos.

That is madness.

Yep.

Started to show glimpses of his talent this season, but no way justified this kind of offer.

riak andrew's write-up in the rookie me central wildcard summary...

#5 Riak Andrew
Tall Defender | 192cm | 17/02/2005

Stats: 12 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 rebound 50s

Having arguably been bested by Jobe Shanahan in their previous two meetings this year, Andrew faced the daunting task once more and kept Bendigo’s spearhead forward goalless for just the second time. The over-ager stuck tight to his direct opponent and was able to nullify his marking influence when Bendigo had the wind advantage. After some tough moments in term two, one of Andrew’s best moments was a rundown tackle late in the piece to exemplify his effort and intent.

Definitely pick up Riak.

We might be sitting quite well for talls in 14 months time. Andrew, Ah-Mu and White.

And no, I don't want some nuffy to say "that's if White comes". White will be a Demon.

Risk is an over-ager... I take it he's a late developer?

It's a nightmare trying to find actual rules to see if Riak is even still in our academy. One set of rules I found said you can include an overage player in your academy but nothing conclusive about whether that allows you to match bids or preselect as a rookie.

Forget about whether White will come, first we got to see if he's actually any good. JT never promotes the guys in younger years for a good reason. Got to dare to dream but we're a long way off knowing if he's even someone we want yet.

The AFL rarely do things by accident NS.

The idea was to make sure we didn't get him but instead went to their preferred franchise.

Did we protesteth at tbe highest levels i wonder?  The filth would have pushed for some form of compo and/or made sure this didn't happen surely?

That's a bit of a delicate one. Always been excited as the prospect of Kalani playing for us but I'm also not completely sold on him. I do know he was a bottom ager this year. Tarion Ah-mu appears to be the greater priority.

both have played 'up' in their underage year - i'm confident both will be afl-level recruits

in terms of riak, the rule SEEMS to indicate that he remains in our academy as he wasn't selected as an 'underage' recruit

kid is still all of 19 currently, so hardly 'mature age'

Over ager because he was primarily focused on basketball though, is that right?

As a catergory b rookie I am not sure what we have to lose, particularly if it might help to lure Mac.

My understanding is you can forget about Mac as he isn’t going anywhere.

  • PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

With both sides precariously positioned ahead of the run home to the finals, only one team involved in Sunday’s clash at the Adelaide Oval between the Power and the Demons will remain a contender when it’s over.  On current form, that one team has to be Melbourne which narrowly missed out on defeating the competition’s power house Collingwood on King's Birthday and also recently overpowered both 2024 Grand Finalists. Conversely, Port Adelaide snapped out of a four-game losing streak with a win against the Giants in Canberra. Although they will be rejuvenated following that victory, their performances during that run of losses were sub par and resulted in some embarrassing blow out defeats.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • PREGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
