Shocking indecision, as a professional player u would want to prepare knowing WHERE u are playing because every ground has its own nuances, dimensions, wind, shade plus esoteric factors. Shocking from AFL

This is bordering on the ridiculous, AFL site still showing TBC, it is approaching a cruel satire. Come on Gil get a grip man make statement, Do don’t just think Do.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am no fan of the AFL but they are having to deal with multiple state governments and we have seen over the last 2 years how difficult that is with just one. Someone in QLD is probably reading the tea leaves.

I don't see how, given the Queensland Governments travel restrictions:

Bring GCS here to play at Marvel, they play there the following week. How hard is this? This is a ludicrous situation.

Picket it is more than likely a problem with state governments than the AFL.

"UPDATE: Clubs preparing to fly in and out of Queensland for Round 20

All parties are increasingly confident the AFL will gain an exemption from the Queensland government to stage two games in the state this weekend.

Although there is no formal word, Port Adelaide is preparing to fly in and out of Queensland on Sunday to face GWS and Melbourne has been told it should be ready to do the same on Saturday."

I don't get the angst about the venue and the travel/disruption.

Does the venue really matter?

And regarding disruptions we have had a dream run so far this year:  5 i/state trips of 1 hr each, all fifo or overnight.

Whereas, Syd and GWS left home at a moments notice to come to Vic, then moved to Qld and there they stay.  Adel and Port told to pack for 3 weeks and went to airport then told to go home, then told to get to the airport.  They've not been back since.  Lions told to come to Vic to play and the next day told the game will be in Qld so they went back.  Ess told to pack up and go to Qld and they are still there.  Cats, Bulldogs and Saints have been to Perth at least once.  Saints played several games in Cairns.  Freo have had to play several Home games on the eastern seaboard.  Cats and Pies had to endure the silly SA quarantine rules.

Its not as if quarantine in Perth is a hardship.  Teams quarantine at the Joondalup Resort - not a shabby place.  It is the place the AFL has tentatively booked for finals contingency.  Players leave the resort to train and play Eagles.  In the meantime they can golf, swim etc at the resort.  Cats, Bulldogs and Saints have been to Perth at least once.  Saints played a few games in Cairns.

Goodwin said he expects to play at Metricon.  Max has said they expect to spend 8 days in WA for the Eagles game.  Not cast in stone but as solid as can be in the everchanging covid environment.

Just saw LN's post - every chance we fly from Qld straight to W.A. arriving midnight/1.00 am.  Probably better than flying back to Melb then out to Perth the next day.

Yep we cannot go whatever the locations and unless you have pay tv cannot watch . So Bris / melb makes little difference.

It is wednesday evening and we don't know for sure where we are playing. This is plain out silliness. This must take a fracture out of the players mental ability to prepare.  Wonder if they will have to get out of bed at 3:30 for a flight ?

Does the venue really matter to say a club like Geelong??

We will be playing this game on the Gold Coast, then we will fly direct to Perth and quarantine for 7 days before playing WC at Optus.

We need to win both, please!

We’ve screwed ourselves Picket. Losses to the likes of the Crows, Filth, GWS and the Dorks draw sees 14 points the FD no doubt would have pencilled in.

GC and WCE locations are the least of our worries. Boys need to rediscover their hunger, until we do, we could play every game at the G and it still wouldn’t help our cause.

What complete rubbish, they were never going through the season undefeated and every team drops games.   We can match it with the best and we will show this come September

I appreciate the heads up - especially on the 2 wins. Good news.

As I just mentioned in the Changes thread the Govt up here still has Vics banned. If the AFL get permission to fly in/out then it better get sorted tonight as it doesn't give the club and players much time to prepare and gives Suns a huge start.  Train in the wet at Casey today. Play in the warm sunshine Saturday up here if it goes ahead. Be a huge effort to win this one if this is the case.

Tigers are staying at Joondalup resort and travelling in their own little bubble to and from West Perth’s ground at Arena Joondalup to train each day. Hardly quarantine like those returning from overseas are enduring

I seem to recall many of the players claiming to have enjoyed "hub-life" last year as it gave them a chance to bond better. A two week stint in northern Australia and Perth while all living and working together may help re-bond them at a time when we are looking a little shaky.

The bit in italics above is pure speculation. But it is no different from speculating that two weeks away from home or various long distance trips is going to be detrimental. Or, to pit it in simple Neeld-speak, it is what it is.

Winning is the only option despite any adversity we'll face in the coming days.

If you're losing to Gold Coast Suns, you're not making top 4.

Can you please advise if there's any truth to our Adelaide game being in Darwin in round 22?

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.
